Stitch Fix March 2014 Review

Saturday, March 15, 2014

I have a new love and it's name is Stitch Fix. Stitch Fix is the answer for the girl who is in desperate need of a wardrobe update, but has literally ZERO time to shop. It's also the answer for the girl who wants to go out of her clothing comfort zone, but doesn't know where to start. I discovered Stitch Fix on accident or maybe they just want me to think I did. I was taking a calming Youtube break watching a lovely video made by british blogger Zoella when I noticed a little blue ad in the corner of my computer screen. It intrigued me so I clicked and I'm so glad I did. Stitch Fix has all the benefits of a personal stylist with a only a fraction of the price tag that comes along with it. Stitch Fix is like that friend that grabs things off the rack for you to try on, the one who goads you into a dress that you're not sure is you, but once you try on, you realize you've found a perfect fit.
When you sign up for Stitch Fix, you fill out this long personal profile that really delves into where you are at now with your wardrobe and where you want to be. Fill out the profile with as much detail as you can muster! It lets your stylist get to know you so she can pick out pieces that you will absolutely love. Once you sign up and fill out your profile, it's time to schedule your fix! I have my Stitch Fix coming monthly because I'm in need of a lot of new pieces and with a busy work schedule, I have no time for a proper shopping trip. You are charged a flat styling fee of $20 once your stylist gets to work on picking out your fix items. The awesome part about that is that if you buy ANY piece from your fix, the styling fee is applied to your purchase! I definitely took that into consideration when I bought my items! Now, finally, let's get to my fix!
Sanctuary
Elora Princess Seam Sheath Dress ($98)
The first piece in my fix was a really cute navy blue/white striped sheath dress. In this photo, I paired the dress with a 3/4 sleeve long cardigan and pair of black flats. I thought this dress was very cute and a great addition to any work wardrobe, but since I already have so many sheath dresses, I took a pass on this one. I was a little sad to do so since I dearly love stripes, but I know there will be more dresses, stripes and fixes in my future.
Tulle
Angeline Airy Knit Open Cardigan ($78)
Kut From the Kloth
Fenton Distressed Boyfriend Jean ($78)
Under Skies
Tallia Embroidery Detail Tank ($54)
I was able to pair together three pieces in one shot thanks to my awesome stylist Dana. The Fenton Distressed Boyfriend Jeans were really cute and I really wanted a pair of laid back jeans for weekend wear, but I really didn't like the distressed part. I don't like spending money on things that have holes in them, even if it is on purpose. I had to take a pass. The cardigan was a light and super comfy fabric with a pretty airy knit design all over it. I really did like this cardigan, but for $78, I needed to love it to purchase. The last piece in my outfit was the the Tallia Embroidery Detail Tank. I actually thought that this would be the once piece in my fix that I would not like. I was quite wrong. It fit me beautifully and was perfectly flowy. The embroidered pattern was beautiful it worked great with a pair of jeans. This end up being one of the pieces that I could not pass up!
Pink Martini
Sally Mixed Striped Dress ($98)
As soon as I pulled this dress out of the box, I knew I had to have it. The fit was amazing, showing off my assets and hiding any flaws. I also loved the print. The two different blue tone lines looked lovely with my hair and skin-tone. The bonus of this dress was that it also had POCKETS! I love dresses with pockets. I knew that this dress, albeit pricy, was a keeper! I wore it to work the very next day, pairing it with a long blazer and dark brown ankle boots. It put such a spring in my workday step.

Stitch Fix is an absolute must for me and those looking for a wardrobe refresh that don't have the time to shop. I got to try on each and every piece in the comfort of my home and had three days to choose what to keep and what to send back in the big pre-paid envelope that they sent. As a bonus, if I ever find that I love EVERY piece in my fix, I get a 25% discount on the entire purchase! I'm so excited to see my next fix! I asked for fun pieces to ring in Spring and I know whatever my stylist, Dana, picks out will be awesome!

Here's my referral link in case anyone reads this and feels like this is something that they just NEED to try out!

Graze Box Review (March 2014)

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Many of you may not have heard of Graze box. I hadn't myself until a few weeks ago. I had just discovered Liz and My Subscription Addiction. She does reviews for every subscription box you can think of and a ton of boxes you've never heard of! I had been tearing through page after page of box reviews when I stumbled upon Graze box. Grazing is something that I do quite often. I don't like huge meals and prefer to snack all throughout the day. There are a couple problems with snacking all the time. One is finding healthy things to snack on (Bags of chips are everywhere). Another is portion control (Once you pop, you just can't stop). Lastly, for me, is snack boredom (Same snacks all the time = death by snack boredom). Luckily, I found Graze which alleviates all of those issues.

Grazes' snack boxes give you a choice between 'the nibbler box' which gives you 90 different snack options to choose from and 'the calorie counter box' which gives you 50 snack options. I opted for the Nibbler box! You can set up deliveries so that they come every two weeks or just once a month and each box is only a whopping $6 including delivery! It's totally worth it to me when I think about how much I spend on snacks during a given week! I also like the rating system that Graze encourages you to do! They send you snack choices based on preferences with a 'try' it, 'like' it, 'love' it or 'trash' it rating system for ALL of their snacks. You go through all 90 of their Nibble box snacks and rate what you'd like to try, what you know you like or love and what you NEVER want to get! You can also view the snack's nutritional value to ascertain how healthy you want your snacks to be! They, then, send you a box of 4 perfectly proportioned snacks based on your preferences. Each box is a surprise and you can always go back and change your preferences after you've tried a snack!

My first box I got 4 delicious snacks; Honeycomb Crunch, Boston Baguettes, Jelly Doughnut and Graze's Chocolate Orange. I have to say I loved them all. Honeycomb Crunch had milk chocolate covered honeycomb, almonds and raisins and was a delicious after dinner treat! Graze's Chocolate Orange had Belgian dark chocolate coins, orange infused raisins and hazelnuts! Boston Baguettes had crunchy tomato breadsticks and BBQ relish! My favorite of the box had to be Jelly Doughnut! Jelly Doughnut had raspberry strings, sponge pieces, raspberry infused cranberries and almond slivers. The sponge pieces tasted exactly like mini Nilla wafers and the raspberry strings exactly like candy! It was a perfect snack for the office to avoid the chips and bowls upon bowls of candy!

I can already tell that Graze box will be a staple in my subscription boxes and I can't wait to see what they send next!

Golden Tote February 2014

Sunday, March 9, 2014

I'm not sure how many of you have heard of Golden Tote so I will explain. It's a monthly subscription service that lets you pick out 1-2 articles of clothing that have been curated by the great designers behind Puella, a great line that is shown at Anthropologie. Then, they mail you your selected items plus a few surprise items that have been hand picked by a member of their styling team! They choose your surprise items based on a style profile you fill out when signing up for Golden Tote. I went on a major subscription splurge a couple of weeks ago and added Golden Tote, Stitchfix, Graze box and Hammock Pack to the list of subscriptions I needed to try! The first one to arrive was Golden Tote.
Golden Tote presents two options when choosing your tote. One option is the $49 tote where you pick one selection out of their choices and they mail you that piece along with 1-2 surprise items. The other option is the $149 tote where you choose two selections out of their choices and they mail you your pieces plus 3-5 surprise items! I opted for the $49 tote as I wasn't sure how I would feel about my first tote purchase and wanted to try it before I committed. I do love that every time you order a Golden Tote, it comes in an adorable reusable Golden Tote tote bag! This was the first thing I saw as I popped open the box on a particularly dreary Wednesday morning!
The pieces came folded and in wrapped plastic bags. It was fun pulling out each individual piece and trying to guess what I had gotten as my surprise items! I was so excited to add some new garments to my wardrobe, which has become slightly dull as I have NO time for proper shopping. I received three items in my first Golden Tote; A retro chic jersey tunic in navy blue/white (my choice), a light pink floral printed scarf (surprise item) and a Under Skies embroidered black top (surprise item).
The floral scarf was very cute and I could see myself wearing it with a pair of jeans and a white top. It is not a circle scarf, which I was mildly sad about as I do not have any of those! It's a very sheer scarf with big flowers patterns all over it. I'm excited to test it out and see how well I can rock it!
I was not excited about the Under Skies embroidered top. The stitching felt very bohemian and very not me and there is nothing more uncomfortable than wearing something that makes you feel unlike yourself. I tried it out for a day at the office and, thankfully, it wasn't as uncomfortable as I first imagined. The sleeves are very flowy and the shirt is made of a very soft material that was really comfortable, but I still couldn't completely get over the stitching. It may have just been a one time miss for Golden Tote in regards to listening to the style profile. It would be awesome if they could allow users to give a bit more information about themselves and their style preferences so that every girl gets pieces that she loves! Maybe this will be something they can expand on in the future, but for now this piece was a major miss.
Finally, onto the piece that I chose and do LOVE; The Retro Chic Jersey Tunic Dress! It's a tunic dress so it fits loosely on the body, but it is ridiculously comfortable and the pattern is beyond cute. It was unlike any piece I had in my wardrobe and I felt such giddiness being able to wake up on Friday morning knowing exactly what I was going to wear! It was raining outside so I paired the dress with black Burberry rain boots and my Forever 21 teal toggle coat. I was a very happy camper as you can see.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Golden Tote! The piece I picked was definitely something I wouldn't have picked out in stores and I love having more unique outfits in my wardrobe. My only misgiving about continuing is whether or not they really look at your style preferences before sending out your surprise items. It's hard to get to know you off a few questions so maybe expanding that style profile would give them the ability to tailor more pieces to the individual!

If you have tried Golden Tote, totes let me know how it went for you!
