Happy Halloween!!!

Friday, October 31, 2014

Happy Halloween everyone! I love celebrating the holidays and this year is no different. My house is fully decked out with cobwebs, spiders, ghosts, bats, pumpkins and even a big skeleton! I've carved pumpkins, drank pumpkin beer and hard apple cider. I've got Halloween candles lit and and a huge bowl full of candy, just waiting to be passed out to all those adorable little trick or treaters tomorrow night. Speaking of little tricker or treaters, I thought I'd share a few photos from my Halloween's past. (please do not judge me for any of these costume choices, I was young and did not know any better)
My two sisters got to be the pretty, pretty ballerinas while I'm the little one dressed as pebbles, complete with a stick in my hair to serve as my 'bone' barrette!
I'm guessing we have a dirty witch, a princess and cleopatra. I think everyone involved may be wearing a bit too much makeup.
College Freshman Creative Costumes: Sexy Galaxy, Sexy Tinkerbill and Sexy Aquarium!
College Sophmore and I'm rocking the 'sexy sailor' look.
My Junior year of college and I'm a 'sexy witch'! Sense the collegiate theme here?
First year out of college and I focused more on the Pumpkin carving experience with some hard apple cider. My pumpkin is the one on the very right of Jack Skellington! I carve him every single year.

Happy Halloween! Share your favorite costume from Halloween's past in the comments below!

October Favorites

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 107 - I have been heavily favoring this lipstick throughout the month of October. A gorgeous deep berry shade, it's the perfect lipstick for Fall. Not only is it a gorgeous shade, but it also has some incredible staying power. Lasting finish is right; I drank coffee, ate food, even applied chapstick a couple of times and this lipstick stuck with me through all of that. Even when it does begin to fade, it goes from a dark berry wine shade to a lighter and softer pinky shade. I will totally be grabbing this lipstick a lot more throughout the next couple months and if you haven't checked out the Rimmel London Kate Moss lipstick line yet, you definitely should!

San Francisco Giants a.k.a. World Series Champs 2014 - I have to write about the Giants since it's ORANGE OCTOBER! I'm writing this post right as I watch the Giants win yet another World Series. It was so much fun to watch them throughout the playoffs and see them make it to the World Series. Our office even began projecting the games on the wall so we wouldn't miss a single game-changing second. It makes me so proud to be a born and raised San Franciscan! Go Giants!

Instacube White Stream Photocase - Another item that I have just been totally enamored with through October has been my Instacube. Instacube is basically a digital picture frame that utilizes your Instagram. I can look through a user's profile photos, scan through #hashtags, look through popular, even go through my own liked photos list. I love to have this photo frame on my desk to perk me up throughout the day. Yesterday, I set it to #autumn and watched a long line of gorgeous photos that epitomize Fall. I can never see enough pumpkins or gorgeous trees changing their colors!

Pumpkin Latte & Marshmallow Comfort Body Cream - This amazing body cream from Bath & Body Works has been a staple in my Fall shower routine. It is my go to après shower lotion to keep me soft and smelling amazing. It has comforting notes of vanilla, pumpkin, marshmallow and brown sugar. Perfect for winding down after a long day, the scent totally lulls me off to sleep. I just love Bath & Body Works Body Creams as a whole. They do a fantastic job of moisturizing even the driest of areas and keeps you moisturized for hours. Heads up, all of their fall items are on super discount right now so stop by and stock up!

J.Crew Factory Flannel Pajamas - My favorite articles of clothing lately have actually been my Flannel Pajamas from J.Crew in navy gingham. While I can't exactly wear these out, they are perfect for lounging around the house during lazy weekends. They are so ridiculously warm and comfy that I have fully considered wearing them to work on Halloween as my 'costume'.

My Haircare Must Haves

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

I actually don't spend all that much time on my own hair, but I think the low maintenance look is definitely best achieved when I use my haircare must haves! My favorite shampoo and conditioner recently have been the Classic Shampoo & Classic Conditioner from Aesop. Aesop uses an abundance of plant based ingredients in their products and they are so soothing. The classic shampoo contains Rosemary leaves, Cedarwood Bark and Juniper Berry and the conditioner contains Bergamot Mint, Cedarwood Bark and Lavender Stem. Using this combo always makes me feel like I'm taking a little trip to a very relaxing spa (seriously, so necessary sometimes).  Once or twice a week, I also love using a hair mask and this one from Macadamia is awesome. This Deep Repair Masque smells deliciously nutty and does a great job of moisturizing my hair without making it greasy.
My après shower favorites include the Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment, Herbal Essences Curl Boosting Mousse and the Bumble & Bumble Brilliantine. I love to use the healing oil treatment on the very ends of my hair to protect them from blow-dry, environmental, and basically any other damage that comes my way. Next up, I use a bit of curl boosting mousse through the length of my hair. It does a great job of enhancing my natural waves and it smells incredibly like apples (seriously!!!). I love randomly sniffing my hair through the day and getting a whiff of apple. The last thing I do to my hair is usually take a tiny amount of Bumble & Bumble Brilliantine and calm any crazy fly-aways (I tend to have quite a few). It's perfect for doing that and giving me a bit of control over my hair if I want to style it a certain way.

Have some haircare must haves of your own? Share them with me in the comments below!

p.s. I may/may not have just sniffed my own hair to get a whiff of appley scent.

Halloween Must Watch List

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

Halloween is only four days away so it's time to really get into the spirit. One of my favorite ways to get into the spirit is to watch all of my favorite Halloween classics. I'm not the biggest fan of scary movies so my favorites tend to be of a less scary variety. Here are some of my Halloween film favorites!

1. The Haunted Mansion - One my favorite rides at Disneyland, I was ecstatic to see the story brought to life. Disney added in a lot of intricate details from the ride and Eddie Murphy and company gave it a good dose of humor. Definitely a must see for lovers of this Disney attraction.
2. Casper - The friendly ghost, the friendliest ghost of all! It's enough to just see Christina Ricci and Devon Sawa as child actors! It's a classic I love watching every Halloween, especially the scene with the Up and At 'Em machine. Now, who doesn't want one of those?
3. The Tower of Terror - Another one of my favorite Disney rides, the Tower of Terror is a great family Halloween movie! Starring Kirsten Dunst and Steve Gutenberg, the film focuses on five people who mysteriously disappeared in an elevator in the 20's. It's got crazy ghosts, evil witches, and a teenage and anxsty Kirsten Dunst. Win, win, win!
4. Hocus Pocus - One of the ultimate Halloween classics, if you have not seen Hocus Pocus, please stop what you are doing and immediately go watch it! I can't even explain how good it is. The film focuses on three witch sisters who rise from beyond the grave when a virgin lights a black flame candle. Oh and, did I mention, Sarah Jessica Parker plays one of the witches. Seriously, go watch right now!
5. Scared Shrekless - One of my new animated Halloween favorites, Dreamworks Spooky Stories Scared Shrekless. It's a family friendly tv short where Shrek and his friends decide to host their own scary story off in the abandoned Duloc castle to see who will be crowned the King of Halloween. Guess what, it's on Netflix streaming now too!

Moving In

Monday, October 27, 2014

Sorry to all if this post is a little heavy. This weekend was full of stress and excitement. My boyfriend and I decided a couple of months to move in together. We came to realize that I hadn't spent a night at my own apartment since New Year's eve! I already owned more than half of his closet with my own clothes, two bookshelves full of my favorite classics and a desk in the office that was all my own. It was time for us to make it official. This weekend, I headed over to pack up my apartment with a mix of nerves, excitement, sadness and nostalgia. I was excited to take that next step with my boyfriend, but I knew I was giving up a lot by moving in. I wouldn't have that 'just me, special, all alone' place anymore. I wouldn't have an easy escape route. I wouldn't have my favorite spots to go to and my favorite restaurants to eat at anymore. I wouldn't have only my stuff everywhere. I was moving to a new place with new restaurants, new spots, and a whole new 'always together' place.
As I packed up and ordered way too much from my favorite spot nearby, I sadly looked about my room as it sat in shambles. A whole chapter of my life was being closed. It was then that I realized that I needed to think more about what I was gaining and less about what I felt like I was giving up. I was gaining a new home, a new place to decorate for Halloween, a new place to light up a Christmas tree, a new couch to get cosy on a sunday morning,  but I still had a big spot of nerves in my stomach. I was a bundle of stress and nerves as I walked down the stairs to meet my boyfriend. As soon as I saw the smile on my his face as he hopped out of the moving van, I was put at ease. I'm opening a new chapter and it looks like it will be a very exciting one.

Weekend Wear

Saturday, October 25, 2014

We've got some rainy weather headed our way this weekend and, just my luck, it's the weekend I'm moving out of my apartment and moving in with my boyfriend across town (scary and exciting!). There's a lot of packing up to do, but there's nothing that says I can't be cosy and cute while doing it. I have been loving pulling out my Hunter boots and fleece socks for when it starts to pour. Pairing the bright red with a little navy & stripes is just the ticket to cheer up a rainy day!

Friday Funny: The Office Pranks

Friday, October 24, 2014

I've rediscovered why I love The Office while re-watching season after season on Netflix. It's so funny and has such great character chemistry. One of my very favorite relationships on this show has to be between Dwight and Jim. Watching the continuous pranks that Jim plays on Dwight always get a giggle out of me, no matter how many times I've seen them. For a Friday funny, here are my top five favorite Jim-Dwight pranks.
The Office - Asian Jim

The Office - Dwight from the Future

The Office - It was Dwight

The Office - Giftwrapped Desk

The Office - Pam's Prank on Dwight

My Instagram Style

Thursday, October 23, 2014

I've always loved getting up in the morning to put together an outfit. I always strive to put together something that makes me excited to start my day. I've been posting these outfits on my Instagram page and I've been loving sharing my day to day style. These are more of what I wear on a regular basis; to work, to coffee, to brunch, etc. I love to dress up all fancy schmancy too, but you'll usually find running around in a skirt or dress with a cosy sweater on top to keep away the San Francisco chill.
This was my 'off to apple picking outfit' that I picked up especially for when I was in Michigan. I wanted an outfit for all day wear and comfort. I picked legging jeans from the Gap, Hunter packable boots, a puffer vest from J.Crew, and a cute button down. It was perfect for running around all day without having to worry about getting too hot or too cold.
The weather in Michigan the last day we were there was definitely a bit chilly and there was a whole lot of rain. To stay warm and dry, I opted for a slouchy sweater, navy blue leggings and my hunter boots. It was perfect for checking out the U of M campus. For those who went to University of Michigan, you guys have a gorgeous school, especially in the Fall! (you also have a CRAZY amount of squirrels!!)
On a lazy sunday where my biggest excursion was grabbing brunch and some much needed coffee, I wore a J.Crew Factory Peter Pan collar knit and a black skirt from Express. Needing a pop of color, I paired it with some old Kenneth Cole red wedges and some bright red lipstick from Nars in the shade Cruella.
If you can't tell by this shot, I really love polka dots. It's such a cute, fun pattern to wear and I can never have too much of it in my closet. For a colder day that was going to be spent in the office, I paired a sleeveless collared white polka dot dress from Forever21 with a black elbow patch sweatshirt and my favorite Polka Dot Duck Bag from Baggu. I also threw on these adorable pointed black flats from Sole Society.
I love pulling pieces out of my closet that I have totally forgotten about and making them into a new look. I picked up this skirt from Forever 21 over a year ago and only wore it a couple of times, which seems like a shame for such a cute skirt! I now resolve to wear it more often and, in this shot, paired it with a flowy, front tie top (similar) from Modcloth. I also paired it with some really cute cream colored mary-jane flats from Sole Society.

It's fun to show off my day to day style on Instagram  It's another reason to be excited to put together an outfit in the morning!

Cosy in Flannel

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

I woke up one morning while we were in Michigan to 28 degree temperature. I couldn't wait for the chance to wear some of the super cosy items I had packed. I immediately pulled out a J.Crew button down in the coziest of all fabrics, flannel. I have never owned a flannel shirt before and I can't believe what I was missing out on. To me, it's like wearing a big hug. It's so soft and cosy to keep me warm when the temperatures get cold.
I paired it with one of my favorite skirts of the moment from Goodnight Macaroon. Although the skirt doesn't really keep away the cold, pairing it with a warm pair of tights certainly does the trick! I paired the skirt with a pair of black stretch cable knit tights from J.Crew and an old pair of brown boots from last year. The last item that I couldn't wait to wear again was my puffer vest! This vest is such a necessary piece for Fall, Winter and probably Spring too! It's great for easy layering, keeping you cosy when it's cold.

Netflix Marathons

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

After an especially long day or an especially long weekend, an Netflix marathon is always in order. It seems like the perfect way to wind down and relax my brain when it feels like it has been running on overdrive for way too long. With so many choices on the site, it can be overwhelming to decide. I've picked out some of my absolute favorite shows for your next Netflix Marathon!
Scandal - If you're looking for political intrigue, forbidden romance and the most kick ass female on tv today, Scandal is your ticket to all. There are not many girls today who would not love to kick it and have dinner with Olivia Pope and her team of badass gladiators.
The Office - I'm just going to say it right now, The American version of The Office is funnier than the British version. There, I said it! Watching Steve Carell's awkwardness from the very beginning never ceases to make me laugh. You watch Pam & Jim slowly fall in love and it's always fun to see the Jim & Dwight daily pranks! You will find endless hours of hilarious moments and heart tugging romance with this marathon.
Supernatural - Looking for a Supernatural thriller involving two brothers? Supernatural is your show! Two brothers hit the California backroads searching for their father and battling every supernatural being gets in their way. It's a great show for those interested in the supernatural world who also want to see the developing relationship between two brothers, which, trust me, is an amazing part of the show. Real question is, are you a Dean girl or a Sam girl?
Gilmore Girls - A very new addition to Netflix, Gilmore Girls was one of my ultimate favorite shows in high school. I could barely contain it when I saw that all seven seasons of this show were finally on Netflix! If you like fast talking, quippy and very witty dialogue, this show is for you!
Gossip Girl - I love to re-watch every season of this show at least once a year. I fall back in love with Dan & Serena and find out why I finally decided that Blair & Chuck made a better couple than Blair & Nate. Growing up with the books, it was great to see those characters brought to life. If you're looking for a show with privileged teenager drama, then you found it with Gossip Girl!
Sons of Anarchy - This may be a little bit darker of a show than those shown above, but it's fantastic, none the less. If you're looking for a biker drama that'll help you fill your quota of feeling like a badass, then Sons of Anarchy is your show. It's all about a biker gang based in Charming, California. You see internal gang power struggles, a family at odds and a lot of guns, sex, and fighting. You'll never look at a guy on a bike the same way again.
The Tudors - Looking for a historical fiction guaranteed to keep you awake? Try watching all four seasons of The Tudors! It depicts the story of King Henry VIII and the lives and deaths of each of his many wives. It tells the story of early English Monarchy with a lot of sex and political intrigue. As a girl who was always intrigued by the story of Anne Boleyn, it was great to see her brought to life by the talented actress, Natalie Dormer. This is a must see show for lovers of historical fiction!

An extra shot of Pumpkin please...

Monday, October 20, 2014

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 //  5 //
'Tis the season for Pumpkin everything! Pumpkin is everywhere in Fall and I couldn't be happier. They have all the pumpkin products that you would expect to see in October and a few products that I would have never thought of in a million years. I especially love the Michael Todd Pumpkin Nutrient Rich Facial Mask and David's Tea Pumpkin Chai tea. I like to use both of these during my little Sunday night relaxation time. I let the mask sink in and do its job while I sip a delicious cup of Pumpkin Chai tea. I also drank a Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin beer while pumpkin carving last night and it was delicious. I seriously have a deep love affair with all things Pumpkin and I can't ever seem to get enough so you will always find me asking for an extra shot of Pumpkin please!

Weekend Wear

Saturday, October 18, 2014

I've been loving wearing Grey & Black shades lately. It's easy to mix and match and add pops of color where I like. This weekend, I'm going to be doing a bit of shopping and this is a great outfit for walking around and popping in and out of shops. The boots will keep me warm when it gets windy and since they're flat, they will be better for longer wear. I love the skirt since it's so flouncy and girly! The top is comfy and warm and I love the silky peter pan collar detailing. The purse gives a cute pop of bright color to the dark outfit. I paired the outfit with my very favorite liquid eyeliner, Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. It has incredibly lasting power and provides such great dark color.

Currently I'm Loving

Halloween Decorations - Decorating for Halloween is one of my absolutely favorite things to do and Target has been doing a stupendous job of helping me out with that. They have some of the best and most inexpensive Halloween decorations that are perfect for around the house. I especially loved discovering this chalkboard tombstone. I can't wait to write cheesy Halloween sayings on it; Rest in Peace.
Hunter Tour Packable Boots - I spent last week traveling in the Midwest and there was a fair amount of running around in dirt, mud, rain, grass, etc. I wore these Hunter boots almost every single day and they were one of the comfiest shoes ever and always made me smile when I looked down at my feet, a good sign for pretty, new, red shoes. As a bonus, they are packable so it saves a ton of space in my suitcase. If you are looking for new boots for the dirt and rain, be sure to check out these Hunter boots!
ScentSationals Apple Bobbin' Wax Melt - As of late, I have been all about wax melts and with a quick trip to a Walmart in Defiance, Ohio during my Midwest travels, I picked up some new wax melt favorites including this ScentSationals Apple Bobbin'. It smells like delicious crispy apples! I love the scent of apples in Fall so this little melt is perfect for me.
Gilmore Girls on Netflix - My best friend from high school and I used to watch Gilmore Girls marathons during all of our sleepovers. I was so ridiculously excited to find all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls streaming on Netflix last week. I've been totally on binge marathon mode, giggling at all my favorite scenes and episodes.
Pumpkin Chai Tea - I love Pumpkin and I love Chai tea so this combination is an ultimate favorite for me. It's a completely delicious black tea with notes of pumpkin, cinnamon, carrot, cloves and caramel.  As a bonus, it even has these cute little pumpkin shaped orange candies in it!

Apple Picking Adventures

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Apologies for the photo heavy post, but my trip to Michigan had so many firsts for me that I just had to share. As a girl born and raised in San Francisco, traveling to the Midwest was such a culture shock for me. People ride tractors, the seasons actually change, they have things like apple orchards and corn mazes, everything is so different!
I actually had the most wonderful apple picking adventure during my first full day in Michigan. Having never been apple picking before I wasn't sure really what to expect, but it turned out to be a lot more than I originally thought! We went to Wiard's Orchard, which is a country fair and apple orchard all in one so there was a ton of activities to partake in. First and foremost, I picked some apples. I went straight to work picking out all the best apples from each tree.

Next, we headed over to the pick your own Pumpkin Patch. I have NEVER seen Pumpkins actually  on the vine so I was awestruck to realize that these pumpkins were literally ones you had to pick off the Pumpkin patch vine!

 Tractor crossing....it's a thing.
Another first for me was a corn maze. Safe to say, I got totally lost amongst the stalks. Thankfully it wasn't dark out otherwise I would have been running around screaming.

Yet another first for me was a hayride through Wiard Orchard's haunted glen. It was such a cute ride around the Orchard and through the woods where they had a haunted hayride setup. They have a bunch of special effects for the ride at night, but knowing me, I'm not sure I could take things popping out at night and those scary effects. In the daylight though, I was having a blast.

Last stop was the Orchard's petting zoo. I have never seen a Llama in person before so I was totally terrified that this one below was going to spit on me. It did look like it was about to pounce.

Hay there!
I also noticed a small dark door that led to an adventure with Alien Caged Clowns. I'm terrified of clowns so I opted for passing on the ones that have been caged by Aliens. All in all, such a busy day of firsts for me, but I loved every single minute of it!
