January Favorites

Friday, January 30, 2015

January seemed to fly by ridiculously fast. I don't know how it happened. One minute, it was my birthday and the next, I'm seeing Valentine's Day decor everywhere! I can't say I mind, since I love Valentine's Day, but woah did it get here quick. Here are some of my absolute favorites from the month of January!
Essie 'Comfy in Cashmere' - I love when Essie comes out with new polishes. I get so excited to run to my local Walgreens and check them out and I was definitely not disappointed. My favorite of the lot has to be 'Comfy Cashmere'. Essie describes the color as mauve with deep velvet undertones, but I think my absolute favorite part is the way it subtly shimmers.
Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm - I can't say this eye balm will work for everyone, but it definitely works for me! Several months ago, I got a deluxe sample of this eye balm from Sephora. I didn't think much of it when I first put it on since I had tried so many that hadn't worked and I can't say I noticed a change right away. I noticed the change gradually over weeks and couldn't believe how much this product lightened the dark circles under my eyes. It's definitely a bit pricy, but if you can afford the splurge and dark circles under your eyes is a big woe for you, definitely check out this eye balm.
Kate Spade Patent Aster - If you read my blog earlier this week, you know that lately I have been totally obsessed with mini purses. Those tiny purses that can only carry the absolute essentials because I think we tend to carry way more items than we need and we regret the strain it puts on our shoulders! I have been alternating between this Kate Spade Aster purse and Kate Spade Mini Maise purse for all my quick outings. It's Kate Spade so it looks good with everything and I think my shoulder is very thankful for the rest.
Divergent Book Series - I watched the movie Divergent last weekend and I was completely hooked. I immediately hopped over to Amazon and bought the complete boxed set. I've halfway through the last book and I even bought the little side book, Four. It's totally adducing. It's basically a dystopian love story with some bad ass fighting and motifs of finding your place in the world and standing up for what's right. Safe to say, it's become one of my absolute favorites. If you have any other suggestions for books like this, I am all ears!
Sugar Paper Valentine's Day Cards - Valentine's Day is coming quickly and I have totally been planning ahead! I got a bunch of the most adorable Valentine's Day cards from Sugar Paper, my new favorite online stationary shop. They have so many different ones to choose from that I was able to pick out individual cards for each of my loved ones. I can't wait to pop them off in the mail! If you are looking for holiday cards, this is seriously the best place to go!

Scandal Returns Today

Thursday, January 29, 2015

I am so excited to run home tonight. One of my favorite shows is back on television and I couldn't be more excited. I'm ready to get a big glass of wine and a big bowl of popcorn and OMG over and over for the whole hour. If you watch Scandal, you will totally get the wine and popcorn thing. If you do not watch Scandal, you should hop over to Netflix right now and binge watch the first three seasons. Seriously, it's totally addicting and will become one of your new favorite shows, hands down. I think every girl either wants to be or be friends with miss Olivia Pope.

Little Purses

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

More and more often, I find myself using smaller and smaller purses. They are the perfect size for all your daily essentials for a day out and about. I used to find myself carrying these huge purses without really needing half of what I brought with me and lugging a huge purse around can be quite a pain on your shoulder. No more unnecessary shoulder pain, I say! These tiny beauties are a great solution and with so many different designs, colors and details, you will have a tiny purse to go with everything. I have to say that one of my absolute favorite mini purses right now is the Kate Spade Mini Maise. I find myself reaching for it non stop since I got it in December. It's just too adorable!

Zero Time to Shower

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Honestly, I tend to hit the snooze button on my clock way more often than not and this generally leads to having little to no time for a proper shower. On those days, a quick spray or shake of one of my favorite dry shampoos is the perfect way to clean up. Now, each of these dry shampoos provide very different pluses from translucent to volume to delicious scents! I always reach for Klorane when I want a bit of calming oatmeal and Oribe is definitely one of my favorite for volume! If you're looking for great scent, I would go for Alterna and if you prefer powders, I would try Oscar Blandi or Lulu Organics. It seriously makes my mornings so much easier when I can give myself a quick spray or shake and tousle my hair back to life.

Do you have a favorite dry shampoo?

To Do Lists

Monday, January 26, 2015

Mondays for me generally mean rounding up everything I want to accomplish for that week and writing it all down somewhere is a necessity before I get to work. With most people that means writing it all down in a note on their computer, but I prefer to write all of mine down on an actual sheet of paper. Something about putting the pen to paper helps me feel just a teensy bit more accomplished. I also get a huge thrill for crossing items off once I've completed them. Now, just because I like to write it all down, doesn't mean I don't like to do it with a bit of flair. Here are some awesome notepads for writing down all of your daily to do's!

Trinket Trays

Friday, January 23, 2015

I seem to be a girl who leaves small items in odd locations, only to be unable to find them later on. Keys, earrings, rings, necklaces, matchbooks, you name it, I've probably misplaced it. Trinket trays are the perfect remedy for that little problem! I've totally started collecting these little trays and putting them in strategic locations around my apartment. They are the first place I look when I think I've misplaced something and I almost always find it in one of those cute little trays. The number of times I've seriously misplaced small items has drastically decreased since I start collecting these trays.
Not only are they super duper handy, but they are oh so stylish.

Sole Society Flat Favorites

Thursday, January 22, 2015

I do not think I own more flats of one singular brand than Sole Society. I just think I fell in love with their style. For me, flats are all about the pointed toe, long wearability and compatible style. What I mean by those is that I love a pointed flat that I can wear all day and that pairs well with many an outfit. I own about six pairs of Sole Society flats at the moment and I can honestly say I do not regret a single one of those purchases.
Although they DO take a bit of breaking in, for style and price, Sole Society shoes just can't compare to others. They are my absolute go to when it comes to styling an outfit to give it that extra pizazz and their styles and patterns just differentiate from other brands. I seem to slip into Sole Society flats more often when I'm heading out for a low key day with friends or planning a styled photo shoot for the blog. With so many styles, it can be hard to choose, but I find it easiest to just choose one pair at a time to love. Give each pair of shoes their proper due.

In need of a Tropical Vacay

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

So I'm just going to say what everyone is thinking right now, we all are in desperate need a tropical vacation. We're over winter and its bitter cold and we would like to be lying on a hot sandy beach having a cold drink and enjoying the warm sun.
Maybe it's because I'm finally getting better from my terrible cold or that I'm tired of sniffling constantly because of the chill in the air, but I keep dreaming of sitting on a deck chair in the sand while the sun shines. I sadly have no current plans to hop on a jet plane to somewhere warm and sunny so I will have to make do with living vicariously through others and creating my own at home tropical island. So don't mind me as I crank up the heat to 75 degrees and sit on a deck chair in my apartment while listening to a recording of the ocean breeze.

Ski Slope Sweater

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Running a bunch of errands on a Monday holiday meant an outfit that could keep me comfy all day long. I have been practically living in this skier sweater from the J.Crew Factory. It's crazy comfortable and makes me think of being up on a snow covered mountain about to take a deep breath and plunge down on my snowboard. Who can argue with that excited feeling? My outfits lately have been all about simplicity and comfort and these velvet pants certainly fit the bill. I loved them so much that I bought them in two other colors. These velvet pants are perfect for dressing up and dressing down. This pair of shoes from Sole Society definitely give the outfit a pop of color and I love the the tartan pattern.

Hope you feel better!

Sunday, January 18, 2015

Sorry, I haven't been posting properly this past week! I was taken down by the worst cold that I've had in years. I felt like I was incapable of doing practically anything. I tried taking some time off work, but I hate feeling unproductive for too long. Now while I am still slowly recovering from that terrible, awful, no good cold, I did find some great ways to cope and make that cold a little easier to handle.
1. Crane Hippo Cool Ultrasonic Humidifier - Humidifiers are an absolute necessity for any winter cold. All that nose blowing can make your nasal passages super congested and dried out. A humidifier increases the air moisture in the room to make it easier for you to breathe. I loved having a humidifier to leave on in the bedroom at night. It made it ten times easier for me to sleep through the night and how can you resist the cute Crane humidifiers. I just want them all!
2. Smith Brothers Warming Throat Drops - I was obsessed with these throat drops during the peak time of my cold. These Warm Apple Pie throat drops were not only crazy delicious, but they didn't make me feel sick after eating a ton of them. Seriously delicious!
3. Emergen-C Warmers - I always go through at least one pack of Emergen-c packets each time I even think I'm getting a whiff of a cold, but I loved discovering these new Emergen-c Apple Cider warmers. You drink it hot and it tastes like Apple Cider, what could be better?
4. Binge Watch Netflix - A pre-requisite for any cold is a whole lot of tv binge watching. Netflix makes that so much easier. I can stream seasons and seasons of Bones, Scandal and The Office and nap throughout.
5. Homedics Personal Ultrasonic Humidifier - When I went back to work, I realized that NOT having a humidifier at work really sucked. I mean, coping with a cold at work is ten times harder so you definitely need to find ways to make it better. Having this teeny tiny personal humidifier on my desk was perfect for getting through the worst of my cold. It even can be powered through USB so I just popped it into my computer.
6. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream - All that nose blowing and rubbing made the skin around my nose dry and flaky, which just made the cold feel that much worse. I was really glad to have a little container of the Ultra Repair Cream to take with me everyday. A little dab on my nose and all the flakes would disappear.
7.  Puffs Plus Lotion with the scent of Vicks - Getting a cold, I know I'm going to go through a whole lot of tissues. This can lead to the harsh red nose syndrome that almost always occurs after using that many tissues. I found a great way to combat this with the Puffs plus lotion that also has the scent of Vicks. It kept my nose from getting the harsh red nose and the Vicks helped me breathe a little easier.
8. Raft Lemon Ginger Simple Syrup - My last absolute favorite item that helped me cope with my cold was this Lemon Ginger syrup that I used in lieu of tea and coffee. I love putting a tablespoon of this in hot water. The combination of lemon and ginger totally soothed my throat and it smelled and tasted amazing.

All About That Maroon

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

For a chilly January morning that was spent wandering a artisan food fair, I chose to go with a maroon theme for my outfit. I wanted something that would keep my warm, but would still give off a bit of girlish charm so I immediately pulled out this deliciously warm swingy sweater with elbow patches from J.Crew factory. I always find such cute pieces on that site and usually at such a good price. I paired the maroon sweater with this comfy pair of mulled wine tights to keep my legs warm against the morning cold. I wanted a bright skirt to round out the outfit so I pulled out this flared skirt from Goodnight Macaroon. I seriously wear this skirt all the time, it's such a versatile piece. It pairs with so many of my outfits. Since I knew I was going to be walking around quite a bit, I wanted a pair of shoes that wouldn't hurt my feet and a purse that would hurt my shoulder. I picked a pair of Ellemenno booties that I've worn since college and are still just as comfortable as any pair of flats. I paired the whole outfit with my favorite purse of the moment, the Kate Spade Mini Maise in black. Seriously, it is one of the best little purses for a quick  outing.
I love the Mini Maise! I just can't seem to stop pulling it out every time I make a weekend excursion.

It's my Birthday!

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

Today is my 26th birthday! Thank you to everyone who has reached out to send me a little birthday wish. It truly means a lot. I'm very excited to be keeping this birthday low key and just spending it with my favorite gentleman, my boyfriend. I had so much fun hanging out with my family on Sunday playing bocce ball and cards at Bar Bocce in Sausalito. Seriously, such a cool spot to hang out. Even though I came away from the day with a feisty and none too nice cold, it was totally worth it to get to hang out all together to celebrate another year of me!
I'm really quite excited to see what 26 will bring. Hopefully, today and the rest of this year will bring me some new adventures and a whole lot of smiles.

Thank you everyone!

Currently I'm Loving...

Friday, January 9, 2015

Kate Spade Mini Maise - Do you know how sometimes you make a big purchase and then regret it later. With me and Kate Spade, that NEVER happens. I love every single item I've ever purchased and I have never had a single ounce of buyer's remorse. That is definitely the case with the Kate Spade Mini Maise. This little mini bag has been the perfect accessory to dress up any outfit. I've worn it to holiday parties, afternoon brunches, quick day trips, even wore it as a cross body carry all purse at Disneyland! It is the perfect size for all of my everyday necessities. I've been wearing it non stop since I got it and I have to say I really do love it.
The Balm Cindy-Lou Manizer - I got a sample of this in a Birchbox last month and I've been using it every single day since. I also love the Mary-Lou Manizer as a highlighter, but the Betty-Lou is a perfect color for an everyday blush. It's a pretty peach shimmer and instantly sets your cheeks aglow.
Bones - I don't how I started watching Bones, but I must have decided to watch a single episode on Netflix one day and now I can't stop. I've been re-watching the whole series from start to finish. The show is focused on the relationship between an FBI agent and his forensic anthropologist partner as they solve murders by examining the bodies. I feel like I actually learn things when I watch, but they sneakily teach you amidst the humor and dialogue.
Boom Chicka Pop - Snackwise, I've been really into popcorn and not just any popcorn, but Boom Chicka Pop! Their popcorn is all organic and actually pretty healthy comparatively, but what I enjoy most about their popcorn is the crazy amount of flavors they have. Barbecue, Caramer & Cheddar, Sweet & Spicy, the list goes on and on. So many flavors, it will definitely be awhile before I get bored!
Pressed Juicery - After the holidays, I really need a dietary reset to get me back on the right track after one too many chocolate truffles. I love Pressed Juicery for that! I've done their 3 day cleanses before and they can definitely be a commitment so this time I decided to do a quick reset and only do a 1 day juice cleanse. I felt a million times better the next day, like seriously my whole body just felt better. Now, as a quick snack or a little pick me up, I'll swing by to pick up my favorite juice. If you're looking for a quick kick in the pants to get back to being healthy, I would totally look into trying a 1 day or 3 day juice cleanse.
Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream - The holidays definitely took its toll on my skin. Too much fun and not enough beauty sleep had done a bit of my damage. To rescue my skin, I went back to my daily routine using my clarisonic at night, but it didn't seem to be making a drastic improvement until I switched to using the Fresh Lotus Face Cream. This cream has been giving me the exact perfect amount of moisture my face needs to get back on track. In just a few days, my face was looking ten times better.

Bauble Bar Obsession

Thursday, January 8, 2015

Lately, for me, it's been all about the baubles. I've been totally obsessed with finding gorgeous pieces that could help me give any outfit that perfect finishing touch. To find those pretty pieces, I've been scouring through the Bauble Bar website to find pieces that fit my style and budget. I really love Bauble Bar for its wide variety of pieces, a little bit of everything. I personally have been getting really into their statement necklaces to give each of my outfits a bit of sparkle. Here are some of my current Bauble Bar favorites, spanning from pieces I actually own and pieces that are currently on my Bauble Bar lust list!

I'm Off to Bed

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Bedtime is almost like a ritual to me. I have a very specific routine I go through to get myself all comfy, satisfied and ready for a good night's rest. Besides all the skincare and beauty pampering, there is also the pampering I like to do for my mind. Stress has been a huge factor in my life recently and I've relied heavily on my 'Off to Bed' routine to keep me happy and healthy. It may seem crazy, but a great pair of pj's gets me in the perfect mind set to get some rest. Lately, I have been completely obsessed with the matching sets from J.Crew. I think I own at least 5 matching sets, one for each night of my work week! I also really enjoy making a cup of tea as I settle in for the night and I have yet to find a more delicious tea than practically anything from David's Tea. My current favorite is Apple Custard, which is just as good as it sounds! As soon as my pj's are on and my tea is ready, I light a scented candle (I'm Bath & Body Works obsessed atm) and get ready to get cosy. For that, I definitely need my shearling slippers and my absolutely favorite blanket scarf from ASOS. I actually got the same one for my sister for Christmas this year! It's so cosy whether you're wearing around on your neck like a scarf or around your legs like a blanket. My absolute last essential is a good book. I really love reading historical fictions at the moment so I have been cosying up to Juliet Grey's Becoming Marie Antoinette. It's such a descriptive depiction and perfect nighttime reading. With my comfy pj's, tea, blanket, candle and great new book, I'm completely ready for a good night of rest and relaxation. It may seem like a lot, but I always find that I wake up a much happier camper.

Lush Bathtime Favorites

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

There's not much as relaxing as taking a long, hot bath. For me, it's one of the perfect times to decompress from a long day. For a small amount of time, there is no work to be done and nothing to worry about. To make the most this time out, I always reach for some pampering favorites from Lush.  I love Lush for their bath bombs, melts and bubble bars specifically, but they make phenomenal products all around for skin and hair and it's all natural and homemade! Popping a bath bomb or a bubble bar into the tub makes for an extra luxurious, exciting and relaxing bath and with a huge variety of scents and formulas, everyone is sure to find something to love. Check out some of my Lush Bathtime Favorites.
