April Favorites

Thursday, April 30, 2015

April is coming to a close and it came and went rather quickly. I can't believe it's almost May, which means it is almost Summer. Spring, you are one quick season! Now that April is almost over, it's time  to round up all my April favorites.
J.Crew Factory Lobster Sweater - I will always love sweaters, even in Summer. Let's face it, San Francisco summer is mostly winter anyways. This lobster sweater will be something I have been wearing at least once a week. The cute knitted charley sweater makes me dream of summers in Nantucket and lobster rolls by the beach. Ah, to dream!
The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter - Satsuma is one of my all time favorite scents. Citrusy and summery, it's perfect for Spring and Summer seasons. Seriously, one whiff of this and you will never choose another scent. It's also a super moisturizing body butter, perfect for apr├Ęs shower and leaves you smelling amazing.
Original Beauty Blender - I switched up my foundation recently and I have been loving using the beauty blender to apply it. This little pink sponge is amazing! It makes it so much easier to apply foundation and I have to apply so much less of it, which is much better for my skin. It also looks so much better blended in with the beauty blender. If you haven't tried this yet, you definitely should!
The Body Shop Banana Shampoo & Conditioner - Another old Body Shop favorite of mine, I am re-enamored with their Banana shampoo & conditioner. For non banana lovers, do not worry, the scent doesn't stay with you after you wash it out, but what does stay with you is the soft, luxurious hair. My hair always looks and feels amazing after I use it and I remember all over again why I loved it so much.
Chai Tea Lattes - Every afternoon, my go to drink has been a chai latte. It just sounds so delicious in the afternoon in lieu of coffee. A hot, creamy and spicy mix of milk and chai tea. Properly made, it's the most delicious drink I have ever had and that is saying something.

Disneyland Park Essentials

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

I'm heading off to Disneyland this weekend and I thought it might be fun to share with you all the items that I like to lug around the park with me. Since I am a huge Disneyland fan, you can pretty much guarantee that I will be there from opening until the park closes. Now, that is a long amount of time so I make sure to keep my all day essentials on me. I have been loving using my Kate Spade Mini Maise bag to carry around all the necessary items. The bag is cross body so it sits perfectly across my chest and is large enough to fit all of my essentials without being overly bulky. While there is a ton of food in the park, I like to keep a slightly healthier snack in my purse for those times in line when you need a quick boost of energy. Afterwards, I like to do a quick spritz with a breath spray to keep my mouth fresh. With all the walking around and touching of pretty much everything, washing hands is a must. In line, I like to use a great smelling hand sanitizer like that coconut colada scent. Out of line, I always head to the bathroom to get a proper hand wash in, but those soaps can definitely leave your hands a bit dry so make sure you throw in a great smelling hand cream to keep you moisturized. Along with my regular sunscreen (which I always have my bf carry), I was like to carry a lip balm with spf and a mineral sunscreen to use on my face over my makeup. These two below are my absolute favorites for that! My last park essentials are definitely my compact, since all day walking around will give your face a bit of shine, and a pack of mini toothbrushes. Mini toothbrushes may seem weird, but after a full day of eating all the delicious foods the park has to offer, I love being able to give my teeth a quick brush so they feel clean.

Time To Wake

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

Wakey, wake eggs and bakey! Waking up every morning always means the same thing for me, the start of my mourning routine. I have always liked having a routine that signals it's time for me to get up and ready to go. It may seem weird, but sticking to my routine definitely helps me wake up happier in the mornings. It starts off by waking up a comfy pair of pj's, like this super cute anchor top and bottom set from J.Crew factory. I am totally obsessed with J.Crew's pajama sets. They have such great styles and patterns and make me feel put together, even when I'm asleep. After waking up, albeit usually a bit groggy, I head to the kitchen to fix myself a glass of cold water to help wake up my insides and give my metabolism a morning jump start. Then, I grab my phone and head to the bathroom for my morning skincare routine. This includes lighting my current favorite morning candle, Lemon Mint Leaf, from Bath & Body Works and starting up my morning Spotify playlist. With my morning skincare routine comes a blast of my favorite misting toner from Evian. It does a great job waking you up, no matter how sleepy you might be. After makeup and a quick brush through of my hair, I like to spritz on The Body Shop's Satsuma Body Mist. One of my all time favorite citrus scents, it does a great job of making me feel just that more awake. Last, but certainly not least on my list, coffee. My boyfriend makes me coffee every morning to take with me to work and I feel like it's just that much better when it's made my him, made with love and all. Occasionally, when I have enough time to have a cup at home, it's almost always in my hidden Owl mug. I never fail to find amusement in finding the owl in the bottom of my cup.

Buy Me Lilly

Monday, April 27, 2015

With all the attention for the Lilly for Target collection and the sadness that most of it is now gone, I went back to thinking about the original designer and her amazing pieces. Her bright and colorful designs make me crave Summer-y days and warm weather. They actually inspire happy thoughts and big smiles for me. The only thing that doesn't, the higher price tag. However, I definitely think one of these pieces below is definitely worth a bit of saving. I think I mostly have my eye on one of her colorful dresses, but I could also be swayed to a cute pair of scalloped shorts or colorful skirt. So, now I need opinions! Which one of these pieces below is your absolute favorite?

My Favorite Video Games

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

This may be a post that only some can enjoy so feel free to skip it if you are not someone who enjoys a good video game now and then. Lately, I have found myself totally addicted to taking a bit of time at the end of my days to kick back and play one of the games below. I've been a tad stressed as of late and all of my usual de-stresser standbys just haven't been working as well as they used to. My boyfriend heard me talking about how much I used to love to play video games in college with friends so he got it in his head to go out and buy an Xbox 360 and a slew of video games to help me relax. Weird, but it totally seems to work! It's especially fun on the days when we get to play some of the games together.
Games like the Halo series or even Toy Story Mania are perfect for playing on teams or even for a little friendly versus competition. Halo is all about the fighting to save the planet from invading aliens so it's fun to play that together as a team. Toy Story Mania is based off the awesome Disney California Adventure ride. It's similar to an arcade game where you try to hit the moving targets to get as many points as you can! I love playing that against my boyfriend to see who wins although, it's usually him. When it's just me, I love to play a bit of Disneyland Adventure. It's a great depiction of walking around the park and helping out the characters with fun tasks and getting on the 'rides' for a little adventure. It never fails to help me get excited for my next trip to Disneyland (which is next week)!

Rocksbox Statements

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

I have definitely been getting the most out of my Rocksbox subscription over these past few weeks. Wearing each set of pieces for a couple of days or to one or two fun events and then quickly sending back the pieces so I can try out a whole new set the next time! It's perfect for me because I get the opportunity to try out each piece with a variety of looks and outfits before I ever decide if I would wear it often. It's also feels a lot like dress up, which has always been fun for me. I've definitely talked about Rocksbox before, but for those who don't know, Rocksbox is a subscription jewelry rental service that charges a once a month flat fee to send you unlimited pieces of high end jewelry. They charge you $19 per month for a selection of personalized pieces to fit your specific style. When they offered me a trial subscription to test out the service for myself, I definitely jumped on that chance.
Here are some of the pieces from my last two sets and I have to say that I was totally enamored with pieces from both sets, especially the statement necklaces. I have definitely taken advantage of the adding new pieces to my wishlist every week.
It's also so great that you can send your stylists notes every time you send back a set. I can always tell her what sort of events I have coming up so she can suggest the best accessories to pair with what I'm wearing!

Wine Tasting for the Day

A wine tasting day in sunny weather never sounded so good until this past Saturday. After a few long, busy and stressful weeks, I was definitely looking to escape the city, if only for a little while. The weather was wonderfully warm and had the perfect light breeze. The outing was also a great excuse to go out and find the perfect outfit for a day at the vineyards. I just happened to discover the cutest polka dot maxi dress from Old Navy. I usually shy away from maxi dresses because at a height of 5''4, I always found that they were dragging on the floor. This dress did no such thing! With adjustable straps, it was the perfect height. I especially loved the dress when I paired it with these comfy canvas espadrille wedges.
Dress // Shoes // Purse (old, similar) // Necklace (c/o Rocksbox) // Sunglasses // Hat (old, similar)
This necklace from Rocksbox (c/o) was a great accessory for my wine tasting adventure! The crystal necklace gave the outfit just right amount of sparkle and shine.
It was great to be able to pull out one of my old Sole Society favorite cross body bags.
The view from the vineyard was beautiful and the weather was wonderfully warm. It made for a perfect day of relaxing with some good food, fun friends and some tasty wines.
These canvas espadrille wedges were the perfect matching shoe accessory for the long maxi dress I was wearing! It was my first time wearing these and they were great for all day comfort.
No wine tasting event would be complete without a great assortment of our favorite cheeses and some tasty meats!

Birchbox April Unboxing

Sunday, April 19, 2015

I was so excited to receive my Birchbox in the mail this month! A collaboration with Rifle Paper Co. would ensure that my box would be beautiful and floral-y. The theme for this month was Fresh for Spring, products to help put a bounce in my step and shake up a bit of my everyday routine. While I wasn't super excited about every product in the product, there were definitely one or two that I couldn't wait to try out.
In this month's Birchbox, I received:
No 4. Volumizing Shampoo- I received this before in a Birchbox and it's a great size for travel. It also has a lovely smell, but not too overpowering.
Pop Beauty Eyeshadow Palette- I was so excited to receive this small palette in this month's Birchbox. It was even my sample choice for this month rather than getting the Mad Men themed boxes. Three lovely shimmer shades that are great for Spring.
Harvey Prince Hello Perfume- I'm not a fan of perfume samples and I have it so I only get them a few times a year in my Birchbox, but I was happy to get this sample to pass it on to my mom. She's planning a few big trips coming up and has been looking for perfume samples to take with her.
Wei Manuka Bee Venom Mask- A great anti-aging mask that makes your face all tingly to tell you it's working? Yes, please! I am really excited to try out this mask for myself and see how well it works.
Temple Spa Peace Be Still Calming Face & Body Balm- This body balm, while not terribly exciting, has a lovely herbal scent that is actually quite calming in nature. It's perfect to rub it into your hands and then taking a few deep breaths to calm any big nerves.
Those colors are just so pretty and definitely perfect for Spring. This will be the perfect small palette for traveling!
I was also really excited to try out this Bee Venom anti-wrinkle mask. It creates a warm tingly sensation as it works and helps boost collagen, making skin firmer and more elastic.

What was your favorite product in this month's Birchbox? Share with me in the comments below!

Currently, I'm Loving...

Thursday, April 16, 2015

B&B Works Savannah Mint Julep Foaming Hand Soap - A new season means new soaps, which means new scents from Bath & Body Works! I needed a new hand soap for my bathroom last week so I quickly jumped at the chance to check out the new scents that B&B Works had to offer. After perusing the shelves and uncapping a million bottles to take a quick whiff, I finally settled on the Savannah Mint Julep. The bottle says that the scent is a cool twist of fresh lime, sugarcane and cucumber, but to me it smells exactly like a Disneyland Mint Julep, which is my ultimate favorite drink at the park. I also love the way that they adorned the bottle with an image of hydrangeas sitting in a mint julep cup with a little fleur de lys on it. If you are looking for a new bathroom or kitchen sink soap, then definitely check out this one.

Laughing Cow Creamy Swiss Wedges - I am all over the map when it comes to my snacking preferences. They change so frequently that it's generally hard to settle on favorites, but I think I have found a snack that will be a part of my rotation for a long time. I don't know how I never stumbled upon Laughing Cow cheese before, but they are perfectly portion sized, incredibly delicious and only 35 calories. That's crazy! I love pulling out a few slices of salami, some wheat thins and a wedge of the creamy swiss cheese to tide me over and keep from over indulging in snacks that would be bad for me. It's my new snacking bliss!

Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum - The sun itself is learning that Spring is here and that Summer is coming, which for the pale girls like me, means it's time to REALLY stock up on that sunscreen. I have been absolutely loving the Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum to keep those UV rays at bay. I have been using it as my serum every morning and it actually has helped clear up my skin a bit too. It protects the skin from free radicals that you encounter in your day to day and, for me, it has definitely been doing its job. I will totally be repurchasing this for all of Spring and Summer.

Disneyland Adventures Kinect - As a Disneyland nerd, I do not know how I didn't own this game before now. A few weeks back, I was seriously stressed to the brim and my usual go to stress relievers just weren't cutting it. My boyfriend had heard me talk about this game before and how much I used to love playing video games in college, so he went out and bought an Xbox 360, a kinect, and a bunch of my old favorite games for us to play. It has been such a great stress reliever for me to be able to take some time out and play old games that I used to love. Even better, now we have a Disneyland themed game to play. The game basically has you walking around the entire Disneyland park on quests for a bunch of your favorite characters. You even get to 'get on rides' and play games that tie in perfectly with each actual ride. It is definitely one of my favorite things to do after a long day at work. I firmly believe we could all benefit from playing a video game once in a while.

Replica Beach Walk Perfume - I picked up this perfume only this past Sunday, but I quickly fell in love with it all over again. This was my favorite perfume last Summer and with the 15% discount from Sephora's VIB Rouge Spring Social, I knew it was the perfect time to pick up another bottle. Replica perfumes are unique in that they strive to evoke memories from a specific place and time within the scent itself. Beach Walk is reminiscent of Calvi, from 1972, and they describe the scent as sun kissed salty skin. While I don't know about much about that, I do know that it reminds me exactly of a sunny beach and sand and summer. It certainly does recall all of my favorite memories from last summer and leaves me excited to create new memories while wearing this scent.

Travel Essentials: Toiletries

I'm taking a few fun vacations coming up in the month of May, which of course means that I start packing in April so I can be super prepared (Girl Scout preparedness!). It also helps me slowly get excited for the upcoming trip as I make all these preparations. One of the things I am most adamant about making sure to pack is my set of travel toiletries. For me, travel toiletries are a total essential. I don't want to be parted from any of my favorite products just because they don't fit within TSA standards, but I hate having to squeeze all my favorites into other tiny travel tubes. I find that it's most fun to pick out your travel toiletry items if you know exactly where to find the best in product minis.
My three favorite spots to get all my absolute travel essentials are Birchbox, Sephora & Target. I use all three for very different purposes, but I find that they are also equally important when it comes to prepping for an upcoming trip. If you have a Birchbox subscription already, you know that almost all of the products that come in your box are TSA friendly and are perfect for those weekend getaways. I especially love when a product favorite of mine, like the Coola Radical Recover After Sun Lotion, shows up in my box in a perfect size tube for travel. Since I can't bring my 6 oz bottle on the plane with me, this little tube will be great for ensuring my face is saved from any sunburns and is also just great for giving my face that extra dose of moisture.
For most of my shower and hair essentials, I love to hit up the travel section at Sephora. Those small sections of mini items that they have at the register are great for throwing in your makeup bag right before the big trip. They have all the necessities and usually in your favorite brands. Right now, I've been loving the Alterna Shampoo & Conditioner Replenishing duo for travel, knowing that my hair needs a little bit extra love after a full day of travel.
And for all of my other toiletry essentials like toothbrushes, mini toothpastes, mouthwash, mini razors and makeup wipes, I always head to my local Target. Target has an awesome section for travel toiletries that could have everything you were looking for and a few items that you definitely hadn't though of, bu absolutely need. One of my newest favorite travel finds at Target has to be the Gillette Venus Snap razor. It is so mini that it takes up like no space in my travel toiletry bag and it comes with its own case so I'm never worried about the blades cutting up anything in my bag. Target, I have to say you rule when it comes to travel size items!

My Favorite Etsy Sticker Shops

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

I've been going through a bit of obsession lately with two things. My Erin Condren Life Planner and all of the stickers I've been buying to decorate it. Seriously, my boyfriend laughs because everyday there are just packets and packets of stickers in the mail for me and I can never tell him that those will be the only ones. They are just too much fun! I've been loving discovering new Etsy planner shops everyday and finding new sticker set favorites. Lately, since I have a bunch of trips to Disneyland coming up, I have been on the hunt for super cute Disney sticker sets to put me in that ultra excited Disney mood. One of my favorite sets have come from Planner Candy Designs, who designed Disney quote stickers that fit perfectly into my Erin Condren planner. I also just discovered and, of course, purchased these adorable Mickey Mouse shape themed stickers from Mila Print Shop. They are the perfect size and shape to help me really get into the Disney spirit. Aside from celebrating trips and vacations, I have been using the planner to remind myself to get things done, big and small. I have sticker flags from Oh So Pretty Planner that help me remember to plan blog posts for the coming weeks and the cutest Lush themed stickers from Alex Studio to help me remember to take a break once in a while for a little me time Lush baths. I have also been completely addicted to the stickers that come from Sweet Kawaii Design. All of her stickers are completely adorable and you always feel like the stickers are smiling up at you, which sounds weird, but definitely makes me a little happier.

My Lush Necessities

Monday, April 13, 2015

I'm not sure if it's work stress or life stress, but lately my stress limits have been hitting their highest max. I've been in that mood where you feel like it's all too much and you just want to run and hide somewhere far, far away. While I can't manage to actually go and do that, I can go off and find my all alone hiding place. My favorite spot at the moment is my bathtub. I do everything I can to set up my bath like my own little personal spa and it has been one of my favorite ways to relieve some of that mounting stress. Calming music and an army of candles are two of my bath time essentials, but my ultimate bathtub necessity is the array of products I have picked up from Lush. Whenever I head into a Lush shop, I generally go straight for the bath section and pick up each melt, bomb and bar to take a whiff and decide what kind of bath each would make. Some, like those with lavender or eucalyptus are definitely more of a calming bath for me, but others, like those with citrus, tend to wake me up and put a bit of perk in my step. Either way, they make for a really luxurious bath and helps me forget my stress, if only for a little while. Here are some of my current Lush bath time favorites!

Sephora VIB Rouge Spring Social

Sunday, April 12, 2015

This Sunday was Sephora's VIB Rouge Spring Social a.k.a. Beauty Before Brunch event. As a VIB Rouge, you get small perks throughout the year like special gifts, discounts and even separate exclusive shopping events. They have them twice a year, in December and in the Spring and I was really excited to use the special discount to pick up a few of the products that I had been eyeing lately. I'm not totally sure, but the code may only be for VIB Rouge members to use, but if you are a Rouge member, then now is the time to stock up on some of your Sephora favorites with the code ROUGELOVE.
I went in there with a very specific list of what I wanted so that I couldn't be tempted to overspend. Of course, I was still really tempted buy a bunch of products that all sounded amazing, but in the end I stuck to my list. Since the event gave us a 15% discount, I thought it was the perfect time to grab a new scent for Spring/Summer and I knew exactly what I was going to get. I found the Replica 'Beach Walk' scent Summer of last year and I was totally smitten. One whiff of this scent and I'm rushed back to last Summer and all of the fun trips I took and I can't wait to be wearing this scent again when I make even more fun memories this Summer! Some of the other items that I picked up during the event were the Evian misters, perfect for those hot days when my face could use a quick refresh, and a backup of my favorite Cover FX powder foundation. I also grabbed a container of the Beauty Blender solid cleanser. I just bought and have been loving the original Beauty Blender and I definitely want to make sure that it stays clean!
After you made your purchases, a perk of the event was receiving this little striped foldover clutch full of fun samples. I'm totally striped obsessed so it's the perfect accessory for me!
It was the perfect time to show off my new arrivals from Rocksbox! I loved being able to throw a bit of color onto my plain ivory peplum top with this Perry Street Jane Necklace. The shades of blue were the perfect color combination.
I paired the necklace with this beautiful Gorjana Downtown Layered Cuff that also came in my most recent Rocksbox, courtesy of my awesome Rocksbox stylist.

It was only proper to end the morning of shopping with a quick brunch trip to one of my favorite Marina spots, Marengo. Prosecco, yes please!

Etsy Shop Love: Simply Jessica Marie

Friday, April 10, 2015

I definitely have a serious Etsy addiction. It seems to be one of the first sites I look through every morning and one of the last sites I head to at night. I keep discovering new shops and new creations that keep coming back day after day and I can't say I'm complaining, although my wallet probably is a little sad.

Take this shop, Simply Jessica Marie, for example. I randomly stumbled upon the shop as I was looking for fun illustrated prints that could bring some color into my apartment when I found myself looking through page after page of adorable illustrations that were totally me and my style. The shop owner, Jessica Clinch, designs and creates all the images herself and I have to say, she is one talented girl. She describes her style as feminine and light hearted and meant to make you smile and I think she definitely accomplishes that goal with her creations. Not only does she design and create adorable personal stationary, greetings cards and watercolor paintings, but she can even create customized illustrations that would make for one hell of a gift. Heck, I want one of me and my boyfriend to hang up in our new apartment! If you're looking for a one of a kind greeting card to send or a personalized gift, I would definitely check out her shop on Etsy and check out some of my favorites from her shop below!

Spring Blushes

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

With the small, odd bouts of rain we have been having this week in San Francisco, I can safely say that Spring is definitely in the air. With the weather officially changing, I like to change a few other things in my life too, like my makeup. Gone are the dark lipsticks, eyeshadows and deep berry blushes. It's time to bring in some light and some shimmer!
I've been packing away all my darker blush shades in favor of some paler pinks and definitely a whole lot of shimmer. During Spring, my blushes almost always have a hint of shimmer somewhere. It's like I want my cheeks to show that the Winter chill is finally over and the sun is out and shining.
One of my absolutely favorite blushes this Spring has to be the Hourglass Ambient Lighting blush. When I said I need shimmer, this blush certainly delivers on that. It gives my cheek such a pretty glow and the color is completely buildable, which is perfect for dressing down during the day and dressing up at night.
A blush that I also really want to try out for Spring is the Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush. Not only does it look adorable in its little heart case, but I love that it has three different shades that can be used individually or all together. Definitely let me know in the comments below if you have tried out this blush!

Disneyland Bestie Box

Monday, April 6, 2015

My sister Amanda and I have been passing back and forth our own self created subscription boxes for a few months now. It all started because we were disappointed and a bit saddened to cancel a few subscription boxes that we used to love. We were tired of getting things that we weren't interested in/would never use and the monthly costs of the boxes was definitely starting to add up. Even though we knew it was for the best, we were still a little bummed. We loved getting those monthly surprise boxes in the mail. It was always a little something to look forward to. To remedy this bit of sadness, we came up with the idea of creating our own subscription box entitled The Bestie Box. Each box centers around a certain theme and all the products in the box go along with that idea.
This month's theme was Disneyland! My other sister recently got engaged and her bachelorette party is scheduled for the first weekend of May. One of the big things she wanted to do was spend a whole day at Disneyland so I thought that would be the perfect theme for April's box. I could get all the necessities to make sure we have an amazing time during our Disneyland adventure! The Minnie Mouse ears were obviously a must as was the minnie bow shirt, but I loved adding little other bits I found like this Olaf celebration pin that I found on Etsy and this Mickey Mouse shaped bowl that definitely makes your cereal a bit more Disney! I think we will be ready to hit the park with this little kit of adventure necessities.

Easter Celebrations

Sunday, April 5, 2015

Every Easter, my San Francisco based sister and I make the 45 minute trek to Marin to spend Easter day with our parents. While we don't head to church or celebrate in the most traditional of ways, we spend time the best way we know how, with our family. We ran around chasing Easter eggs, opened our own Easter baskets and even enjoyed a very non-traditional Easter dinner. It was a fun day that we got to spend with family and a few close friends.
I always need a little bit of Easter festiveness on the day! How cute is this little Easter cupcake?
I made a triple berry pie with black raspberries, marion blackberries and blueberries! It was a big hit with one and all! I only wish we had some ice cream to go with it!
Our mom puts on a fun Easter egg hunt every year for my sister and I. We definitely feel that we will never be too old for an Easter egg hunt. Things got intense to see who could get the most eggs and I will definitely admit that there was some shoving involved (cough cough....Amanda). We ended up both getting a bunch of eggs and took our time bartering and sharing our goodies.
Our beautifully put together dining room table! Fancy enough for Easter, I must say!

Easy & Festive Easter Eggs

Thursday, April 2, 2015

So I'm a bit of a mess when it comes to creating things. When I cook, my boyfriend likes to refer to me as Hurricane Brenda because of the giant mess I leave in my wake. I don't seem to mind it most of the time. Clean up is just part of the job when you are cooking and creating, but for Easter I wanted to take a bit of an easier road.
For Easter, I opted for some Instant Egg Art as my cleaner, easier option for decorating eggs. I knew if I even tried to go near dye and vinegar, I would probably become a color explosion with a vinegar scent. These little Disney themed egg slips are the perfect way to decorate eggs with your kid or supremely messy adult friends without causing a huge mess. They just slip on it and then you dip them in boiling water for 3 seconds and suddenly you have an egg delight with an adorable design. Although I probably will incorporate dying eggs in years to come, I will definitely add in a few wrapped eggs here and there. They even have disney stickers for eggs now too!
The tiny little wraps came in a bunch of different designs!

5 Ways to Perk Up Without Caffeine

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

It's around 3pm at work and you can't seem to keep your eyelids open. The clock seems to be ticking by unbelievably slowly and you feel as if you may fall asleep in your chair right here and now. I have this feeling at least once a week and I can't keep reaching for that extra cup of coffee. Too many cups and I find that i'm practically vibrating off the caffeine. I had to find some 'perk up' alternatives that wouldn't have me nodding off or vibrating out of my desk chair. Here are some of my tried and true methods for perking up that midday slump without that extra dose of caffeine.
1. Drink Some Ice Water. A super, super cold glass of water seems to shake up my system a bit. It's like when you jump into that super cold pool water or get hit with an ice cold water balloon. You just feel this super-chilled burst of energy that can definitely perk up your afternoon. Don't feel like drinking water, try splashing some chilled water on your face or running cold water on your wrists. You'll definitely feel a tad more awake after that!
2. Sniff Lemon or Peppermint Oil. It may just be that I love all things scented, but scented oils have been another obsession of mine when it comes to perking myself up in a mid-afternoon slump. You have to be careful though which scents you choose because certain scents, like lavender, will definitely increase your desire to catch some zzzzz's. You want to go for bigger, brighter scents instead like citrus-y lemon or invigorating peppermint. I really love the smell of grapefruit and always seem to have a small bottle of grapefruit essential oil handy. I like to rub a few drops between my hands and then inhale the tasty scent. It seems to give me just the boost I need! You can always dab a few drops on your wrists or on your temples too.
3. Get Some Sun. It could just be the actual acting of leaving the artificial lights of the office for a few minutes, but a quick jaunt outside in the sunshine is always a great remedy for an afternoon drop in energy. So head outside, soak up some Vitamin D, and take in some deep breaths of the outside air.
4. Enjoy a Snack Attack. An oldie, but a goodie. Eating a snack can help boost your energy levels like you just took a 20 minute catnap, but definitely be careful of the snacks you choose. While a donut may seem like the perfect amount of deliciousness, the sugar crash later will have you telling yourself that it was so not worth it. I really love grabbing a portion controlled snack from my desk drawer like a Kind Bar, a Graze snack or one the little packets of deliciousness from Nourish snacks. It definitely gives you that burst of energy without the crash.
5. Listen to Some Dance Tunes. So depending on your office rules, you may or may not be able to try this one, but working at a startup, we can all choose the music playing throughout the office and I always tend to throw in a few of my upbeat, dance party favorites into the mix around 3pm. I can groove along in my desk chair and lip-sync to a little T-Swift to get my energy levels to a higher level and that just all around puts me in a better mood.
