May Favorites

Sunday, May 31, 2015

May is now over and we are that much closer to the official start of the Summer season! Now, it's time to round up all of my favorite products from the month of May.
Origins Super Spot Remover // The day before I was supposed to head off on my Memorial Day vacation, a huge zit popped up on the top of my nose. Red and very, very visible, I set off to Sephora to see if I could find a holy grail fix. The salesgirl at Sephora suggested the Origins Super Spot remover to disappear my pimple in less than 24 hours. I was skeptical, but I used it twice before bed and when I woke up the next morning, almost all of the redness was gone and it was hardly noticeable. The tip the salesgirl gave me was to make sure I applied the super spot remover before I used a serum or moisturizer so that it would sink in and have the greatest effect. It definitely worked!
J.Crew Factory Tennis Sweater // May in San Francisco has been pretty cold so I haven't quite packed up all my cold weather sweaters. Most of the sweaters I've been rocking have been a bit lighter than my middle of winter picks and this Tennis Sweater from J.Crew Factory totally fits the bill. Even in size small, it's a bit oversized, which is perfect for keeping me comfy and warm.
Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit // These kits sold out ridiculously quickly so I'm glad I grabbed one the day they came out. They're still might be a few in a store near you so definitely check it out because they're awesome. It's a kit of TSA approved deluxe samples of some of the best SPF products out there. It was perfect to bring a few on vacation with me and I've even taken to throwing one or two into each purse so that I am never without a bit of SPF protection.
Bath & Body Works Bourbon Strawberry and Vanilla Shower Gel and Body Cream // I needed a new shower gel/body cream duo that was a better scent for the summer months so I popped into Bath & Body Works to see what they had and became quite enamored with their Bourbon Strawberry & Vanilla scent. It smells good enough to eat so try to resist and the scent definitely stays with you for a full 24 hours so it's great for all day wear.
Hint Essence Water // I'm a terrible water drinker. I know it's really good for you to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but it's hard for me to not get bored after just one glass. A good variation for me to ensure I get my 8 glasses is to switch it up with different kinds of water, including sipping on a bottle of Hint water everyday. They come in a bunch of different tasty flavors and it's such a light taste that the water isn't overpowered. I love sipping on a Hint water after lunch as a way to stay hydrated.

Sunny Day in Palm Springs

Monday, May 25, 2015

For a day spent walking around in Palm Springs, I paired a white crochet Lilly Pulitzer for Target top with a pair of pleated floral shorts from J.Crew Factory. I accessorized the look with a pair of gold metal Pineapple sandals also from the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection and a small mini bag from Sole Society. It was the perfect bright and colorful look for a day spent enjoying the sights and sun.
Top // Shorts // Sandals // Purse (old, similar) // Sunglasses
I have been absolutely loving the pleated shorts from the J.Crew Factory.  I especially love them in this Roz Floral pattern. The shorts are so exciting, bright and colorful that they are perfect for a day spent walking up and down downtown Palm Springs, checking out the shops and eateries along the way.
I only brought two small purses with me on my vacation and one of them definitely had to be this brown mini bag with gold metals from Sole Society. I bought this mini bag last summer and it has been a killer accessory to have. It fits all my necessary items and pairs super well with most of my footwear inluding my brown and gold metal pineapple sandals from the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection.
I'm starting to stock up on more and more tops for Summer and they all have to be Summery in theme. This white crochet top from the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection definitely fits the bill. It's light and airy, which makes it great for a slightly warmer day. Also, since it's white, it goes with almost everything I own.

Birchbox May Unboxing

The Birchbox for the month of May was inspired by Emily Schuman of the blog, Cupcakes and Cashmere. The theme that she chose was elevating the everyday, to bring out-of-the-ordinary elegance to your everyday routine. I was definitely impressed with a few of the items that she chose for my specific box, while I am curious to try others. First things first, I want to share with you what was in my box this month.
What’s in my Box -

La Fresh travel-lite Antiperspirant Wipe for Women

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum

CoTZ Flawless Complexion SPF 50

Harvey Prince Sea Salt Texturizing Mist

Chosungah 22 Flavorful Lipstick in Vanilla Berry

One of the items that I was most excited to get in my box was the CoTZ Flawless Complexion with SPF 50. With Summer’s quick arrival, I have been desperately looking for a BB cream that can give me both great coverage and a ton of protection from the sun. While most BB creams have decent coverage, the SPF 30 creams just aren’t enough skin protection for a pale girl like me. The Flawless Complexion, paired with my amazing Beauty Blender, blends seamlessly into my skin and the SPF 50 gives that whole lot of SPF protection that I have been looking for in my foundation.
Another item that I was super excited to get was the La Fresh travel-life Antiperspirant Wipes for Women. After spending a full day running around Disneyland, you will definitely understand the allure of being able to freshen up a bit. These on-the-go packets are perfect for traveling long distances. I think these would even come in handy when you’re pulling a long night at the office or even a quick freshen up between work and happy hour! I will definitely be putting one of these in every purse that I own.
One item that I am definitely intrigued to try is the Chosungah 22 Flavorful Lipstick in Vanilla Berry. I’ve been a little hesitant to try it out since I got it The color looked intensely bright and pink when I opened it, but I’ve read that the color is much more subtle when applied and a really lovely light pink shade. Sounds like a great shade to wear for the Summery months!

Sephora Sun Safety Kit

Thursday, May 21, 2015

I've been a huge fan of the Sephora Sun Safety Kits in the past, but have always been late to the party about getting one and they sell out real quick. This year, I was not going to make the same mistake so I made sure to do a little bit of research to find out when the kits were going to arrive so that I would be one of the first to get one.
If you haven't heard of the yearly Sun Safety Kits, they are basically a kit of 16 deluxe samples that feature everything you might need in the world of SPF. They have lip balms with sunscreen, serums with sunscreen, moisturizers with sunscreen, oils with sunscreen, primers with sunscreen, you name it, then it probably comes in this kit. These kits are perfect to grab at the start of Summer so you can be sure to throw one of these little beauties in each bag so you are never stranded without some SPF protection.
While the deluxe size items are perfect for travel and great to have, the main reason I love grabbing and praising this kit is the partnership that Sephora has with the Skin Cancer Foundation. May is actually National Skin Cancer Awareness month so I think it is no coincidence that the kit always comes out in the month of May. The price of the kit is $32 which can seem a little steep for some deluxe samples, but not when you realize that $20 of each kit sold goes to the Skin Cancer Foundation.
I can't wait to pack up some of these items to try out during my Palm Springs vacation. I am especially excited to try out the BB & CC creams with SPF to find a Summer shade of makeup with a little sunscreen protection. If you're interested in grabbing a Sephora Sun Safety kit then you had better do it fast because these sell out super quickly! You can get them online or in store today!

What's in them:
- 0.2 oz AmorePacific Natural Protector SPF 30
- 0.3 oz Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution Broad Spectrum SPF 50
- 0.5 oz Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in Light Medium

Always Wear Your SPF...

Warm weather is approaching and I am getting more and more excited for it. Summer means swimsuits, iced cold drinks, and lots of lovely warm rays of sunshine warming you up. With the warm sunshine also comes the need for lots and lots of sunscreen. Sunscreen and varied forms of SPF are a non negotiable for me. As a faired skin, faired haired individual, more than five minutes spent in the sun sans SPF and I will definitely be looking a little lobster red. For all others, sunscreen should be a necessity for you too to protect your from any form of the sun's harmful rays. I put together a collection of my favorite sunscreens for all occasions that are sure to protect your skin wherever you're headed this summer.
For those who do a lot of traveling, your best bet is to get a TSA friendly collection of products. My two favorite sets for traveling are the Supergoop City & Sand Tote and the Coola Everyday Essentials Kit. Each of these little kits has everything you need to protect your face, body and even lips from the sun. The Supergoop kit has an amazing sunscreen serum that goes under your makeup and makes you skin feel super moisturized and protected from the sun. The Coola kit even has a little Radical Recovery After Sun lotion to help replenish your skin's moisture after a day out and about in the hot sun.
For those who need to reapply sunscreen on your face often, but don't want to ruin your makeup, then definitely check out the PTR Instant Mineral Sunscreen. Light and translucent powders that come in SPF 30 or SPF 45 work as both a sunscreen and your own little powder compact, taking care of shine and the sun all in one! It's a total holy grail for me when it comes to re-applying sunscreen over my makeup. For those looking to go a little more natural check out the Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Natural Sunscreen. It is made of 97% natural ingredients and is great for both face and body.
For those galavanting off to super warm climates, grab a bottle of Neutrogena's Fresh Cooling Sunscreen. I picked up this right before a sunny day at Disneyland and i'm not sure how they do it, but it felt like a cool mist of water all over, instantly cooling me down. I am totally going to pick up another bottle of this when I head to Palm Springs this weekend! For those that are a little more active or plan to spend their entire vacation jumping in and out of a pool, the SPF for you is Neutrogena Wet Skin Sunblock Spray. Formulated to be used on wet skin without dripping of, this sunscreen will give you the strongest protection in a snap.

In Flight Reading

Monday, May 18, 2015

For short or long flights, I always carry a book or magazine, or several books and magazines, with me. I can only watch so much tv on my iPad or listen to so much music before I am in need of a different type of distraction. I'm a huge reader so, before my trip this weekend, I did a bit of research into some books that might be great for poolside reading or in flight entertainment.
Outlander // A woman in 1945 touches some henge stones in Scotland and is instantly transported back in time to 18th century Scotland and discovers a whole new world of adventure and romance. I happened to discover this book after I began watching the television show on Starz and I was totally hooked. It's a thick book, but definitely a great read.
Beautiful Ruins // This is perfect beach read. A story of romance and mystery along the Italian coast.  The book does such a good job describing the settings in the book that it makes you feel like you are there. It's fantastic read.
Something Borrowed // I absolutely loved this movie so of course I had to book up the book. It is just as cute as the movie. If you're looking to read a romantic comedy, then this is the book you should pick up.
The Light Between Oceans // This is the one book on my list that I haven't read yet, so it will obviously be the one that I'm bringing with me for my flight and poolside reading. The book is about a barren couple that live in a lighthouse that discover a baby who washes up on shore and their share life together. I find lighthouses terribly romantic for some reason so I'm really excited to read this book!
Coastal Living // For when the novels get too be too much and you just want to flip through something with pretty pictures, I always love to pull out a copy of Coastal Living. It's literally filled with gorgeous pictures of beachside cottages and ocean adjacent homes that can't help, but relax me.
Cosmopolitan // Cosmo is the perfect beachside read for any girl who wants to skim through some fun articles and interviews and find the latest products to try out.
People Style Watch // Fashion and beauty addicts get their fix with People magazine and it makes the easiest poolside read, no intense thoughts required.

Packing for Palm Springs

Sunday, May 17, 2015

I have been in desperate need of a relaxing vacation for quite a while now so the long Memorial Day weekend couldn't have come at a better time. For the last few years, my boyfriend and I have spent Memorial Day weekend in Palm Springs. We head to our favorite hotel in the area, the Ace Hotel, and spend a few days of peace and quiet together enjoying the warm sun and the cool pool. It's a necessary excursion for us because we both get to spend a bit of time disconnected from the rest of the world (i.e. phones and computers) and spend a bit more time connecting with each other.
Packing for the long weekend seems to be an ever changing assembly for me. I'm constantly finding new must-wear items that are perfect for lounging by the pool relaxing or walking around downtown checking out the great shops. I started pre-shopping for this trip a few months back and have been adding to my 'to pack' pile every since.
Black Floppy Hat - Both smart and fashionable, I feel like a big floppy hat is an absolute must for lounging by the pool. Target has a great selection of these hats to fit a multitude of styles, but I was totally smitten with this black floppy hat and its cute little bow.

Weekend Bag - I've talked about my love for Baggu bags before, but they also make the perfect weekend bags for trips like this one. They're made of a durable canvas and have two different strap sets so I can wear it on my shoulder if I want. They are also quite big so it can fit everything I absolutely need to take plus a few things that I just want to take.

Striped Shoes - I am not a big fan of having to take off my shoes in the airport, but I know its necessary so I like to wear a pair of shoes that are super easy to slip on and off, definitely nothing that requires laces or buckles. These super cute Sole Society flats are perfect for pre-flight wear and are cute enough to be my go to flats throughout my whole trip.

Sunglasses - Sunglasses are an absolute must for basically any trip where the sun is shining, but I think I have the best sunglasses in the world, classic black Rayban Wayfarers. They go with everything, they always look stylish and I have them on my head practically every day.

Anchor Swimsuit - As a girl with a bigger chest, it's always been hard for me to find that perfect swimsuit. I generally head to Victoria's Secret and go for one of their halter top swimsuits which work great, but they don't really come in fun patterns. They usually are basic colors and I like to mix it up with my swimsuits. That is why I was so excited when I saw this Anchor Swimsuit on Joe Fresh. I'm ridiculously into nautical prints right now and I thought that this swimsuit, with its halter top and ruffle edges was just too cute to pass up!

Crochet Top - So I missed the whole Lily for Target sale when it arrived in April, which made me really bummed because I had been so excited about it. I just totally slept through my alarm and didn't make it at all. Thankfully, my office is pretty close to a Target store, so I've been stopping by each morning for a few minutes to see if the little area that still had Lily for Target pieces had any new additions and that is where I found this adorable crochet top. It's such a fun, summery item that I can see myself wearing it over and over again.

Floral Shorts - I found these shorts on J.Crew Factory and they just popped out at me. I love J.Crew's  collection of pleated shorts, which are preppy and very much my style. This is their neon bright floral pattern and it will pair perfectly with the white crochet top that I'm also packing for the trip.

Pineapple Sandals - Another piece from the Lilly for Target collection that I was able to scoop up were these Pineapple Sandals. I wore them out a couple weekends back and they were super comfy for all day wear, which makes them perfect for walking around Palm Springs.

Have you been to Palm Springs before? Any packing tips to share?

Seafoam & Sparkle

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

I think I have found a longtime obsession in Rocksbox. If you haven't read some of my earlier posts on it, Rocksbox is a subscription jewelry rental service that charges a monthly flat fee to send you unlimited pieces of high end jewelry. They charge you $19 per month for a selection of personalized pieces that fit your specific style. They offered me a free trial subscription so I could test out the service for myself and I must say, I've been more than pleased.

The two pieces above have actually been two of my favorites pieces that I have received from Rocksbox thus far. I have always loved the Loren Hope Sylvia necklace, but I received it in one of the brand spanking new colors, Seafoam. It's a perfect necklace for all of those summer get togethers and day brunches. I can just imagine laying on a nice deck chair, flipping through an issue of Coastal Living and hearing the ocean waves lapping onto shore while wearing this beautiful piece around my neck, so zen. Besides the gorgeous Loren Hope necklace, they also sent me a beautiful set of Perry Street Aria earrings that would make any updo sparkle and shine. I love being able to wear the pieces as long as I want and and send them back quickly for new pieces whenever I am in need. It's a great subscription for those who love to test out jewelry before they buy. You even get a great discount on all the pieces you decide to keep! I definitely can't argue with that.

If you want to try out Rocksbox for yourself, use the code: redheadlovesxoxo to get your first month free!

May Wishlist

Monday, May 11, 2015

The month of May means the start of warm weather and it gets us closer and closer to the season of Summer. This also means that I have a super long list for all the things i'm wishing for in the month of May. It is definitely a lot of things, a whole cornucopia of things. To get ready for Summer, I definitely need to have a whole slew of new Summer polishes and Essie makes some of my absolutely favorite polishes. Along with that, it is essential to have a good weekend bag for all of those quick summer weekend getaways. I have been virtually visiting this monogrammed Satchel bag from Tuckernuck. Throw in some of my summer fav. hair revitalizer from Bumble and Bumble and a Peter Thomas Roth Mini Mask Magic Kit and I'm ready to rock Summer!

Summer Favorites

Sunday, May 10, 2015

While in LA last weekend, I took full advantage of the warm weather and pulled out some pieces that are sure to be some of my biggest Summer favorites when it comes to outfits.
This patterned fit and flare dress from Old Navy is probably one of the cutest dress I have ever seen. It is super light and airy and has an awesome beach boardwalk pattern in blue all over. The v-cut neckline and the full twirl skirt gives it that extra feminine flair. I paired the dress with a necklace from my current Rocksbox set, a Perry Street crystal necklace. I threw on a vintage Jordache jean jacket that I have had forever, just to make sure I stayed nice and warm.
I am completely enamored with this pattern. It just makes me think of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in summertime with the warm Summer sun on my face and the sound of lapping waves (totally soothing right?).
For footwear, I pulled out these adorable pineapple sandals that I was able to snag a few days after the Lilly Pullitzer for Target collection launched in April. There was only one pair left and it was in my size so I figured it was a sign that I had to get them. I wore them all day and they were super comfy, no blisters for me. Plus, I couldn't help but smile at them every time I looked at my feet. I mean, they're freaking pineapples?! So cute.
We spent part of our afternoon driving by one of the many beaches near LAX, enjoying warm sun and cool marina air. Sometimes, we all need a bit of relaxation like that.

5 favorites under $30

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Here's a selection of five of my favorite items that are all under $30! If you need a gift for a friend or a little pick me up for yourself, then here are some sweet picks!
Anchor Bangle - The perfect accessory for the summer sun. I love the nautical anchors all over the bangle and it comes in a bunch of different colors so it can go with so many different outfits. It makes for a great birthday gift for a friend or even for yourself.

Beauty Blender  - This is the best tool in my makeup kit today. It blends both my foundation and concealer seamlessly so it looks like i'm wearing practically no makeup which is always the goal.

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo - Dry Shampoos are an absolute necessity for me. There are many days where I just don't have the time to do my hair and a quick spray of this dry shampoo makes my hair look so much more clean and put together. Plus, it smells awesome!

Naked Basics Palette - In my opinion, this is the perfect mini palette. I use this little baby every single day. It's got great colors for a light daytime look, but it also has some great colors to transition from day to night.

J.Crew Stripe Tunic - I don't think I've ever met a shirt full of stripes that I didn't like. This shirt comes in two different colors and is ridiculously comfy. I love pairing it with a pair of leggings for a quick brunch trip or when I'm running errands around the city.

Bachelorettes at Disneyland

Monday, May 4, 2015

This past weekend, I headed to LA and then Anaheim for my oldest's sister's bachelorette party. We had a full day at Disneyland in our coordinated Minnie Mouse outfits and ears. It was oh so very tiring, but a huge blast. It was definitely a busy day filled with fun rides, good company and so many Mickey shaped foods!
Our outfits went over swimmingly! The skirts were just the right amount of poofy and we got compliments all around the park all day.

A Mickey Mouse waffle was a total necessity to start off our morning!

It was totally necessary to have a Mint Julep on Derby Day!
Mickey Mouse shaped pretzels were also necessary for a midday snack.
Splash Mountain photos are always priceless! The bride to be is the one looking super scared in the front.

Bachelorettes at Disneyland

Friday, May 1, 2015

Right now, I am headed to LA and then Anaheim to spend the weekend with my sisters and some friends as we help my oldest sister, Jen, celebrate her last days of singledom. Woo, bachelorette party!   She decided she wanted to spend the weekend in LA, followed by a day spent entirely at Disneyland. Well, you know I can get behind that as a big lover of all things Disney. A full day at Disneyland as part of her bachelorette party includes coordinated outfits, of course. As one of her bridal party, I will be wearing this little number below! My other sister Amanda actually made the skirt herself out of lots of red tulle and she ironed on these cute little minnie mouse details. With minnie mouse ears and little black shorts underneath, we will all be quite the coordinated group. Let's get ready to party!
