Sunday Afternoon

Monday, June 29, 2015

I spent my Sunday afternoon at a beautiful rooftop in downtown San Francisco at a party for the StyleIt app. Style It is a personal styling assistant app. that can help you coordinate your day-to-day outfits, basically imagine the dream closet from Clueless. They had a bunch of bloggers on the rooftop of the Cova hotel to test out their new app. and to spread the word.

I spent the afternoon with my sister as my plus one to the event.  We always have a ton of fun together and she's always the best about helping to mingle with new bloggers. We decided to mix and match our outfits, going with our own red, white and blue theme for the upcoming holiday. I went red while she went blue!

We were SUPER hungry after the event so we figured out a way to bypass the Pride parade traffic (it was crazy!) and grabbed some delicious Italian at one of our favorite restaurants in North Beach. Seriously, if you're planning a trip to SF, you need to hit Original Joe's for some tasty homemade pastas.

What were you guys up to this weekend? Share with me in the comments below!

4th of July Outfit Ideas

So I know I can have this obsession with everything red, white and blue so my 4th of July outfit ideas  might be slightly biased in theme, but how can I not get behind a dress that is literally all fireworks. These are pieces that you would definitely see me wearing all summer long, 4th of July or not. So, if you're heading out for a barbecue with friends, a boat ride with neighbors, or out with your family to dinner or a party, you'll be full equipped to celebrate America's Independence Day.

DIY Summer Serving Trays

Thursday, June 25, 2015

The Summer season is the season for entertaining. The warm, sunny weather definitely has me wanting to bring a bottle of wine, some cheese and crackers and sit outside hanging out with friends. My love of Summer entertaining has me on the hunt for some fun pieces for outdoor entertaining. I've been checking out Pinterest to find pieces that are super stylish and unique and I ran across a whole bunch of really amazing DIY serving trays that are simple to recreate. I just felt that I had to share. They make an awesome weekend project.
Chalkboard Serving Platter (via Wit & Whistle) - The perfect tray for serving a large array of snacks for a party. I love the idea of being able to write a little label next to each snack to let guests know what they are. I mean for all the odd snacks and appetizers, it's definitely good to know what you're eating before you dive in.  Plus, the little chalkboard labels just give it some style.
DIY Gold Striped Tray (via The Every Girl) - If I ever want to go a bit fancier, I'd definitely start with this gold striped tray. All you need is an ikea tray and some fun gold, shiny tape and you're in business.
DIY Marble Tray (via Pennies for a Fortune) - I am totally enamored with this marble tray. As fas as elegant makeup trays go, this one totally takes the cake.
DIY Wooden Tray (via A Beautiful Mess) - I love that this DIY takes a cutting board to a whole new level by adding a couple of drawer pulls. So simple, it can be done in just a few minutes!
DIY Watermelon Tray (via  Oh So Beautiful Paper) - This tray is absolutely perfect for any Summer party. I love seeing the fruit trend everywhere during the warmer months; pineapples, watermelons and lemons, oh my! I so want to create a bunch of these and paint them each a different Summer fruit.

All of these trays have got me itching to make one of my own. Which one should I try? Share with me in the comments below!

Wear Your Lilly Day!

Tuesday, June 23, 2015

Sunday was National Wear Your Lilly Day, which I took as the perfect excuse to pull out and flaunt my Lilly for Target Shift Dress Upstream. Falling on both Father's Day and the first official day of Summer, I couldn't think of a better excuse to wear a bright and colorful print with little fishes swimming all over it. I paired the dress with a much beloved pair of grey Sole Society flats and mini bag, an eyelet cardigan from Forever 21 and my trusty Rayban wayfarers. Ladies, it's definitely time to pull out your Lilly's!

I love the fuchsia pink detailing on the zipper and the little gold pineapple zipper pull.
The bright blue swimming print always puts a smile on my face.
What's amazing about Lilly dresses is that they never go out of style. Big bold colors and bright prints are timeless from year to year. That's how I know you will find me wearing this dress years down the line. It's so nice to have a dress that I won't have to donate next season. I've never been so excited to repeat an outfit.

Float On...

It's officially Summer and I'm already booking up all my weekends with fun little getaways. All weekend trips that involve hanging anywhere near a pool will also have to involve one of these cute inflatables below. If only I could spend the entire day floating on a pink flamingo. I am practically a fish when it comes to how much I love being in the water and floating on the back of regal swan would just make it that much better. Check out some of my inflatable favorite below!

Father's Day

Sunday, June 21, 2015

For those of you lucky enough to live close to your dad on Father's Day, then I hope you had a blast hanging out with him. I know my sister and I did. My schedule have been so crazy lately that I've barely had enough time to talk to my dad, let alone actually see him so it was a lot of fun to be able to have that time to catch up. We had a late lunch of slow cooked ribs, baked gourmet mac and cheese and asparagus. My sister and her boyfriend made all the main course, but I had the super important job of picking out the cheese for our appetizers (seriously, I believe cheese can make or break an party ;) ). I went with Cowgirl Creamery Red Hawk, Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam and Cypress Grove Humboldt Fog. All super tasty!

Bubbles! We did a fun cheers to Father's Day with a glass of champagne. It went really well with our cheese and cracker appetizers.
Our get togethers usually involve a fair bit of silliness. Wouldn't be us if it wasn't!
It all looked so good. I definitely had to restrain myself from eating everything in site.
Seriously delicious!

Oyster Decor

Friday, June 19, 2015

Along with my obsession with nautical items, I have always been obsessed with all things oyster decor. Besides the fact that oysters have always been a favorite of mine, the shell itself is reminiscent of hot summer days spent by the sea. I've always loved seeing the decor in beachside homes (even bought Coastal Living magazine for inspiration). I'm definitely going to find a few beach house themed pieces to add to my apartment.

Oyster Mirror from Southern Living

I am loving this Katie Kime Oyster and Lemon print pillow from Design Darling! With 100% down insert, it's a great addition to any living room couch or bedroom.

Oyster Lamp from Sue at Home

I love having my own DIY projects to work on. Working on one and finishing it gives me that little sense of accomplishment that I really enjoy. It sparks my inner creativity and it gives me something to work on using my own two hands which is always fun so this Oyster lamp project would be an awesome project to work on.

These gold painted oyster shells are so beautiful. I love that you can use them as either a trinket dish or a little salt cellar in the kitchen. It's definitely an inexpensive and super cute way to create your own trinket dish.

A Summer of Cookbooks

I really enjoying cooking. I have so much fun pouring over cookbooks to find the perfect recipe to try. I especially become super obsessed with cooking during the Summer. Maybe it's the heat, but I find myself wanting to pull out a new favorite cookbook almost everyday and get down to it. For all things in the realm of tasty tacos, I always go to my favorite Tacolicious cookbook. Tacolicious is actually one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco and I have always wanted to know the secret behind their tastiness. I was so excited when they came out with a Tacolicious cookbook. All things taco tasty! I'm also super obsessed with Lousisana cooking. Delicious seafood and an array of Cajun spices is definitely not something I can say no to so I love to pop open my Cooking up a Storm and Down South cookbooks. For delicious desserts, I have been turning to southern favorites, The Southern Cake Book and The Southern Pie Book. Seriously, so delicious!

Lip Stains

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Lately, I've been forgoing my usual red lipsticks and berry shades for something a bit lighter and longer wearing. It's easier for me to not have to worry about smudging or reapplication when it's going to be a long and warm day at my office. So lately, I've been playing with a ton of lip stains to find my favorite shades and scents. During Summer, I love to go a bit lighter on all my makeup to give myself a more natural look that will stay put throughout the day and finding the perfect lip stain is definitely a big part of that! Check out some of my favorites below.

Birchbox June Unboxing

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

The theme of this month's Birchbox is Adventure. Having plenty of adventures in the first month of Summer is definitely a goal of mine so I'm glad Birchbox is making sure I'm prepped beauty-wise. I'm really excited to try the items in my box and considering they're all travel size, they will be perfect to throw in my travel bag. Let me tell you what I got in this month's Birchbox.
What’s in my Box -

Coola SPF 50 Sport Mango Sunscreen

Real Chemistry Luminous 3 minute peel

TOCCA Eau de Parfum Bianca

W3LL PEOPLE The Expressionist Mascara

Emi Jay Solid Hair Tie

Marcelle Mini Waterproof Eyeliner in Electric Blue

With all the awesome sample choice picks this month, I had a really hard time choosing which one to go for, but with all the sunshine and warm weather coming, I knew I should grab something with SPF. I settled on grabbing the Coola SPF sport mango sunscreen. I love Coola's products and currently own a bunch of them including their continuous spray sunscreen and their mattifying primer. Not only are their products packed with all kinds of SPF, but they have great summer scents like pina colada, fresh mango and citrus mimosa. This little bottle will be perfect to throw in my purse for a sunny day spent outside, plus with a screen like Fresh Mango, I'm going to smell awesome.
The other product I was super excited to try out was the mini W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Mascara.  I've gotten a million and one mini mascaras over the past few months, but I really like the brush on this one. It does a great job of separating your lashes, giving each of them a bit of color. I also love that it's all natural formula which is a nice alternative to try.

My Product Favorites

Sunday, June 14, 2015

I tend to switch up my makeup favorites quite often and with the arrival of warmer days, I have been going towards products that will withstand long days at work without a whole lot of reapplication. I wanted simple products that could work in a lot of different ways and I have definitely found a few HG favorites for Summer and I definitely wanted to share my favorites with you!
Cargo Swimmables Blush in Los Cabos // This water resistant blush is completely amazing. It packs a wallup of color in a really tiny amount and it stays put all day long. The coral-y color is perfect for for Summer and I haven't tested it yet, but it's also water resistant. It's basically perfect for warmer months. I am definitely looking at getting the other shades of it too.
Coola Unscented Mineral Tinted Sunscreen // As for my go to primer, I wanted something with SPF that acted like my winter favorite primer, Benefit's Porefessional. Coola Tinted matte sunscreen works amazingly for diminishing pores and protecting the face from the Sun's rays. I really wanted it in  the cucumber scent (I'm such a sucker for scents).
Diorshow Blackout Mascara // For big and beautiful lashes, my go to mascara is Dior Blackout mascara. It does an amazing job of giving me really WOW lashes. It also has good staying power, especially if you go for the waterproof version. I have a feeling I will be reaching for this all Summer.
Stila Pomegranate Crush Lip Stain // I've talked about my love of lip stains before, but the one I find myself reaching for again and again recently is the Stila Pomegranate Crush lip stain. It has crazy staying power and the Pomegranate color is a beautiful berry shade that looks awesome with my fair skin.
Benefit Cosmetics Playstick // It works as a concealer, foundation and powder all in one. It's crazy how useful this little stick can be for all day/every day. I use my Beauty Blender to blend in the stick in all the necessary areas and it does a great job of covering all my spots and acting as my foundation.
Mac Cosmetics Eyeshadow Duo // I have been bouncing back and forth between palettes lately using a random array of colors. I wanted to find shades that worked for the everyday and that didn't require me pulling out five palettes to do it. So i decided to pop into my local Mac and get a duo of the best shades that worked for me. I especially liked Brûlée, a matte cream, Shrooms, a shimmery white, and Espresso, a dark brown. These three shades work perfectly for me from day to night. Seriously, if you haven't checked out the shadows at Mac, you definitely should try.

In Search of the Perfect Beach Bag

Thursday, June 11, 2015

Summer is fast approaching and I am starting to plan out some awesome mini getaways for the weekends to come. Most of the weekends jaunts will definitely be including a trip to a beach or a pool or somewhere where I can relax and read a book or play some cards. This means I'm going to be needing a great beach bag to carry around with me. I'm looking for something that's a cross between fashion and function, possibly with an inside pocket for my cellphone and/or hotel room key. I scoured a bunch of my favorite sites for possible beach bag perfection and below are some of my top choices. They range from splurge to save, from absolute fashion to absolute function. I definitely can't decide between them and may end up getting more than one, but I'm always looking for outside opinions so tell me what you think!

LWD....Little White Dress

A sunny Sunday in San Francisco gave me the perfect excuse to pull out my new favorite LWD, a.k.a little white dress. Every girl has a little black dress in her closet, but every girl should also own a timeless little white dress. It definitely gets you in the mood for warm weather looks and sunny days spent in the cool shade. I was on the hunt for a great little white dress that fit my specific style and I found an amazing one at Gap a few weeks back. Lightly striped, seersucker and fit & flare basically means it is the perfect dress for me. Oh, and did I mention it has pockets? I was basically sold on the spot. It's currently on sale now so if this one fits your style too you better grab it quick before they're gone.
I paired the white with my favorite summery monogrammed tote bag from C.Wonder. Sadly, C.Wonder no longer exists, but I still love wearing my red, white and blue striped bag. If you're looking for a similar nylon tote bag, definitely check out Longchamp.
I paired the dress with some of my favorite pieces of delicate gold jewelry. My new favorite Gorjana Crescent Layer necklace, c/o Rocksbox, and a handful of bows. I paired my matching bow bangle and bow earrings from Kate Spade with a bow ring from C.Wonder.
Bows, Bows and more Bows!

Flamingos, Flamingos

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

The one thing that I have been seeing absolutely everywhere these days is Flamingos! Flamingos, flamingos and more flamingos. Not that I'm complaining, I have been loving seeing the funny looking pink creatures showing up in everything from pool floaties, to cell phone cases to matchbox covers. I think it was all started by Kate Spade and the adorable Anna Kendrick in her MissAdventure video, which is hilarious and beyond adorable. If you haven't seen it, you definitely need to take a look!
This is definitely the Summer of the Flamingo and I think it's about time we all got on board. I for one am going to start with the Flamingo drink coaster. A perfect addition to any poolside party, even Sarah Michelle Gellar is toting these little cuties around.

The Rotunda Tea Time

Tuesday, June 9, 2015

Recently, I've become totally obsessed with High Teas. It seems like the perfect time out from a long day and a great excuse to spend the afternoon somewhere beautiful, sipping on delicious tea and eating an array of tasty little bites. So far I have sipped Afternoon Tea at both the Palace Hotel and The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus and I can't wait to try out even more spots. To read more about my trip to the Palace, check it out here. My most recent High Tea outing though took me to the beautiful Rotunda Restaurant at Neiman Marcus in Union Square. Located four floors up in the Neiman Marcus store, its windows directly face a section of San Francisco's Union Square. Thankfully, we got a table right by the windows so we got to enjoy the afternoon sun with our tea.
The top of the Rotunda restaurant has a beautiful stained glass depiction of a sailboat on the sea.
Our High Tea selection came with six different kinds of finger sandwiches, some delicious sugared scones and a selection of tasty petit fours. My favorite from the savory section definitely has to be the cucumber sandwich. It was light and airy and went splendidly with my tea. From the sweets, I've never been able to resist a tasty fruit tarte, especially with strawberries coming right into season.
We got a beautiful table facing the window so we could see both inside the restaurant, which was excellent people watching, and see outside to the view of Union Square.
So many delicious things to eat that I was insanely full afterwards and definitely needed a bit of walking around. Thankfully, it was a beautiful day to do just that. I am definitely going to keep trying out tea services in the city. They make for such a fun and relaxing afternoon outing!

RocksBox IT girl Event

Monday, June 8, 2015

I love seeing startups in the city connect with one other and collaborate on events. It makes me realize that the city and all the thousands of small companies in it are somehow connected and unified with one another. In that spirit, I was thrilled to attend RocksBox's first It Girl party. They partnered with numerous companies to put on the festivities like StyleSeat, a place for beauty professionals to build their businesses, and ThirdLove, a lingerie company that can find a bra that perfectly fits your body. If you're looking to learn more about Rocksbox, then check out my first post here! Now onto the party.
The event was held in StyleSeat's headquarters in downtown San Francisco. I grabbed my sister to be my plus one for the night. We enjoyed posing in the StyleSeat offices' full length mirrors.
The event had express manicure stations that my sister and I took full advantage of during the party. It was fun to quickly spiff up my nails and they definitely needed a bit of shine. We also had fun trying on a bunch of RocksBox jewelry, even some pieces that I have been eyeing on my Rocksbox wishlist!

I am especially enamored with this Loren Hope Sylvia necklace. It comes in a bunch of different colors, including Seafoam.
ThirdLove had a table in the party setup to show off their array of beautiful lingerie. They use an application to find the perfect bra for your size.
The theme of the party was GoldRush so the entire party showed a bit of gold. From the gold themed cocktails drinks and gold polka dotted straws to the gold flecked macaroons to even gold painted dancers that walked around the party, everything was definitely on theme.

The first 100 attendees to the party got a cute little RocksBox gift bag that included a cute and comfy RocksBox tank top, the designs differed in different gift bags, a Gorjana gold-plated necklace and some awesome freebie coupons to SoulCycle, which I've been wanting to try, ThirdLove, and Jins
