Anyone Can Cook: Ratatouille

Wednesday, August 5, 2015

I mentioned last week in a post how much I used to love to do themed dinner and a movie nights. I would choose a movie I was really excited to see and create a themed dinner based off the film's themes or location. This past weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to re-watch Ratatouille and create french themed cuisine to go along with it. Of course, I had to make ratatouille to go along with the title of the film, but we also made a really delicious chicken and herb roasted tomato dish, along with a classic french dessert, crème brûlée. We even projected the movie on the wall of our kitchen so we could hang out and watch it at our kitchen table!
Ratatouille is actually just a bunch of thinly sliced vegetables, seasoned with salt, pepper, olive oil and some herbs. I used it as an excuse to pull out my super fancy olive oil to give that extra air of flavor. This is right before I popped it into the oven.
We picked up a great bottle of red wine from the little shop next door. It was properly french in name although I couldn't tell you more than that it was a delicious Côtes du Rhône.
The delicious after shot! It smelled so good. Our entire kitchen had this crazy delicious herb smell from this for hours after.
This is a herby tomato chicken dish called Piperade Basque with chicken that my boyfriend made. The early girl tomatoes he used made it crazy flavorful.
Our little diner setup!
We rarely get to pull out our projector and we should definitely do it more often. It's awesome to be able to use our iPad or computer to watch a movie off the wall. Since we have all white walls in our apartment, we can basically watch a movie anywhere!
Crème Brûlée with end of summer blackberries makes the perfect after dinner treat!

  2. That dinner looks delicious! Unfortunately, my husband doesn't like many vegetables... and he's just a picky eater in general. But maybe I'll make this for myself one night :)

  5. Love that wall projector idea! How neat. That's one very good reason to appreciate white walls. And gosh, does that fresh rosemary look delicious! <3
