Yumi Kim Floral Romper

Monday, June 27, 2016

When you open the window and feel the air is DEFINITELY warm and the sun is shining, there is nothing to do but throw on a colorful floral romper and head to a brunch spot with outdoor seating. That's one woman's opinion at least.

This Yumi Kim Liz silk romper has been showing up a lot in my what to wear this weekend outfits. I wear a romper at least once a week and this one pops into the rotation fairly often. I mean, it's the perfect romper to don for Floral Fridays at our office. It gets special consideration since it can easily be dressed up or down AND has pockets too (pockets are so necessary). I've definitely had to resist picking up a romper in every single print.

I paired the dress with suede sandals that I picked from the J.Crew Factory website last year. They required no breaking in which is always a good sign for shoes and the slight twist in design this year is super cute, with the addition of a little top knot over the toes.

I also decided to pull out this foldover clutch that I picked up from the Who What Wear Target collection. This little color-blocked clutch with a tassel detail is great for throwing in a bigger purse to keep yourself a touch more organized, but it also works on its own. It's roomy enough for all of your brunch essentials, including a small wallet, compact, lipstick, hand cream, sunscreen, chapstick and a reusable bag to pull out if you're planning to do some extra shopping.

Lilly Pulitzer in Palm Springs

Sunday, June 19, 2016

I feel like summer is the perfect time to take a load off, take a long vacation and just REALLY relax. At least for me, it seems to be one of the only times in the year where I force myself to disconnect a bit from my 'always at my side' phone and 'never be more than a few hours without' laptop. While I rarely take more than two-three days off at a time (hi, my name is brenda + I'm a workaholic), even disconnecting for two or three days is the perfect opportunity for me to just zen out and think about nothing.

For me, summer always starts Memorial Day weekend when my boyfriend and I head to Palm Springs for the long weekend to sit poolside at the Ace Hotel. It's the perfect place to sit, do absolutely NOTHING and enjoy tropical drinks and tasty snacks while you flip through that stack of magazines you've been meaning to go through for months now.

The 90 degree weather gave me the best opportunity to pull out a new Lilly Pulitzer favorite. Lilly and summer seem to go together hand in hand and whenever I'm in a Lilly dress, no matter where I am, it makes me feel as if I was sitting in an adirondack chair in Nantucket enjoying the summer sun. Now that's a bit of magic, especially if I'm sitting in an overly air-conditioned desk chair in my office.

The Ace is perfect for those looking to spend a few days doing absolutely nothing. With amazing room service, a gym, a spa, a puppy park and two different pools you're pretty much set for everything you might need. We always go for a room with a small private deck with a fireplace so we can eat room service on our little patio, enjoying the warm air.

Seriously, I never wanted to leave.

The Valli Printed Shift Dress in Resort White La Via Loca was the perfect dress to wear to brunch on our last day in Palm Springs. I was worried that the 4 might not fit over my kinda large chest, but as I put it on, any worries were erased. It did a great job of hugging my body and the slight v-neck showed a hint of cleavage without showing too much.

Like so many Lilly dresses, I just couldn't get over how much I love the print. That, and the fact that it was a seersucker like fabric had me sold the minute I slipped it on.

Take it Off Makeup Remover

Friday, May 20, 2016

I feel like there are a million and one new makeup removing wipes available now than the last time I looked. When I first discovered them, it just seemed like the best 'lazy girl' way to remove ALL of your makeup without having to go through 25 cotton pads at once. Now they have different scents, hydrating one, gentle ones, even biodegradable ones! I recently went out and bought a bunch of different makeup remover wipe backs from different brands to test out which ones would become my new go to. Check out some of the ones I'm trying below!

Seersucker Dress

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

Once May finally hits, I feel like I can start storing all my winter clothes and start to pull out all of my warm weather favorites. I've definitely been online shopping like it's the middle of Summer so my sundresses are in huge supply right now.

I think one of my newest favorite dresses is from this designer that I just discovered called Southern fRock. Their style totally reminds me of Lilly Pulitzer and it just makes me love that much more. I've never owned a seersucker dress before and now I can't imagine life without at least one. It's so light and breathable that it makes it perfect for any super hot day where you feel like you might get a little bit sweaty.

I loved the vertical stripes and the fit and flare style was perfect for brunching about town.

I think another reason I've been in love with this dress is the pockets! YES, how do dresses exist today that don't have pockets. It makes it so much easier to carry my phone and favorite lip color of the moment when I have a small pocket to throw it into.

Winetasting in Sonoma

Sunday, May 15, 2016

With the weather feeling more like a chilly February instead of mid May (WHICH IT IS),  I've been taking any excuse I can find to get out of the city and warm up my bones somewhere with a few more rays of sunshine.

Enter Sonoma. My sister, ever the fan of her red wines, has joined a couple wine clubs in the area and needed a partner in crime to head up there to pick up her seasonal shipment. So obviously, I pulled out my best wine-tasting dress, wedges and fav. pair of sunnies, ready to sip some vino and soak up some sun.

Because it was so sunny and warm at the vineyard, I didn't really need a heavy jacket so I opted for a light jean jacket from Old Navy. I paired it with a dress that is from one of my new favorite brands, Mink Pink. This wrap up front dress was light and airy, making it perfect for the sunny weather, and has a snap front closure so I didn't need to worry about showing off too much.

The vineyard we ended up at was Trattore Farms. Not only do they have a  beautiful space and yummy wines, but they also make some BOMB olive oil. I'm not kidding, they're ridiculously good and they have a million different combinations. My two favorite are the blood orange olive oil and the jalapeño infused olive oil. It was a great opportunity to restock my supply.

MinkPink Striped Romper

Sunday, May 1, 2016

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I've definitely been stocking up some warm weather essentials for my spring/summer closet. And this weekend's 70+ weather gave me the perfect excuse to pull out one of my new favorite pieces and parade around. Stripes, blue and pockets, oh my!

When it comes to all things striped, my closet is chock full and I can never seem to get enough. Add a little bit of my favorite color (BLUE) and a few pockets and I can tell that this romper will definitely be a part of my daily uniform.

Spring Lipsticks

Monday, April 11, 2016

When the weather starts to get warm or, in San Francisco, less cold, I find myself itching to switch up every item in my makeup bag. I opt for brighter blushes, fun new shadows and a slew of new lip colors. Wallet, beware. I'm going for bolder, brighter, longer lasting shades that can work a full day and still look amazing.

I could tell I had been on a major lipstick splurging kick recently when I found myself desperately needing an organizer in which I could stack and see (finally!) all the new shades I had. I went for this inexpensive option on Amazon and I'm already loving it. I finally can see all of my lip colors, have space for a few of my favorite skincare items and can also store a few of my favorite eyeshadow palettes in one place. I find that I'm actually going for more and more diversity in my daily looks because I can finally see more of what I own, including a million and one different and new lipstick shades. I've definitely been opting more to pinker shades, both bright and muted, transitioning to darker berry for nights out and long lasting tints for days that I already know are going to be long with little to no chance for a lipstick touchup.

Check out a few lipstick shades that I have been using and loving lately while I celebrate all things Spring:

Blue Spotted Romper

Sunday, April 10, 2016

I think I may have gone a little romper crazy lately, but when it comes to a comfy look that's also got some serious style, they're my easiest go to look. Rue La La has become my new go to for all things online shopping. When it comes to spiffing up my wardrobe, with a full time and crazy work schedule, it's almost impossible for me to find the time to set aside to hit the mall and scour through the racks for some one of a kind finds, but Rue La La has been making it so easy for me. I already have my sizes saved in the app which seriously cuts down on the time it takes for me to find an item I like and quickly get it before it's gone. One of my first and favorite finds was this Eight Sixty Surplice Romper.

The long sleeves make it totally work appropriate (yay for start up life!) and it even has a snap button closure to keep my cleavage in check. It also gets serious bonus points for having pockets to stash my phone and lipstick in. The fun polka dot print just makes it so much more vibrant and a serious mix up from my usual striped dresses or solid prints.

Spring Beauty Wishlist

Monday, April 4, 2016

Spring is probably my least favorite of the seasons, but on the positive side, the arrival of spring means the end of winter so hurray for that! I think my favorite part of spring is really the arrival of a whole slew of new makeup in shades and scents that I am over the moon excited to try out. Pretty pinks, yummy floral scents and mini travel kits of your favorite products perfect for weekend getaways.

I've definitely upped the anty on my spring beauty wishlist this year, but there were so many awesome products that I just couldn't take any of these off my list. Check out some of what I've been loving/coveting lately:
Tartlette in Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette // Bite High Pigment Matte Lip Pencil //
T3 Whirl Trio Styling Wand // Oribe Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream //
Frederic Fekkai Apple Cider Shampoo // COOLA Mineral Sunscreen // Klorane On The Go Essentials // Nars Sheer Glow Foundation // Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aqua Concealer

Yumi Kim Floral Dress

Sunday, April 3, 2016

I am SO ready for summer. In fact, I wouldn't mind if we just skipped April all together and went straight to Memorial Day Weekend. Sorry April, no hard feelings. The weather has just been so up and down lately, going from warm and sunny to cold and foggy in an instant so when a patch of sunshine came in, I knew I needed to act quick. I threw on my new favorite floral dress, grabbed some sunnies and immediately headed to lunch.

I was all for wearing a jacket, but within five minutes of leaving the house and walking to one of my favorite lunch spots, Tacolicious (hello amazing guacamole!), I got way too hot and needed to take it off. Thankfully, it gave me the perfect opportunity to show off my new favorite in floral dresses. I picked up this Yumi Kim dress in an awesome sale on Gilt. I was on the hunt for a few dresses that would shake up my stripe dress filled closet and this zipper backed floral print dress was just the ticket. Since then, I've been practically obsessed with Yumi Kim. Her prints are just so upbeat, vibrant and fun. They put me in a better mood just by throwing one on.

As far as jewelry goes, if I'm ever rocking a statement piece, you can almost always be sure it's a piece I picked up from Bauble Bar. I'm a little weary when it comes to wearing anything other than my everyday earrings and the occasional minimalist necklace, but when it comes to showing off, Bauble Bar is my one stop jewelry shop. They always have the perfect accessory to doll up a plain outfit or if I'm ever looking to make a serious style statement.

Floral Ruffle Top

Sunday, February 28, 2016

Now I know that Spring isn't exactly here yet, but we've been having a week of sunny and warm weather in SF and I've been taking FULL advantage. While I can't quite break out the sundresses yet, I did find this super cute floral Rebecca Taylor crop top that I needed to find an occasion to wear it out and about. Sunday brunch was just the reason.
In all honesty, I first saw the top on Young & Hungry and did some google searching to find out where I can pick up one of my own. It's just such a cute and happy print that it puts me in a good mood just to look at. Obviously, I needed it.
While it was sunny and warm, San Francisco weather can change on a dime so I knew I had to pair the flowery, short sleeve top with a pants and jacket. These pants have become an instant staple in my wardrobe. They're incredibly comfy and I love that I can dress them up or down. I've bought them in practically every color and you'll find me in a pair (at least) once a week.
As for as impulse buys go, this purse has been one of my best ones. I usually do my research before buying a purse. I'll go visit in the store and give it a second and even third and fourth look before making the buy. This time around, it was a definitely see-buy-wear sort of thing, but one I haven't regretted. Always a good sign!

Current Beauty Favorites

Wednesday, February 24, 2016

I'm not one who switches up her beauty routine all that often, but lately I have been adding a bunch of new obsessions to my makeup bag that I find myself reaching for morning after morning. Once I realized that I had a bunch of new favorites, I knew I had to share them. Check out some of my new beauty obsessions below and let me know what products you have been loving lately!
Cargo Swimmables Blush // A water-resistant blush doesn't really seem like a necessity when it's the middle of February, but I've always had an issue with my blushes fading throughout the day. With this blush, I never have to worry. When 5pm hits, it looks the same as it did at 9 a.m. that morning. A total feat in my book.
RMS Beauty 'un' cover up // The way I discovered this product was actually through Snapchat! I was going through and watching all of the Birchbox snapchats and for the last few weeks, they've been passing the baton to a few of their girls, giving you the inside look to their beauty routines, which I love to hear about. Girl after girl had this concealer in their morning beauty routine. Looking at reviews, I totally understood why. It's the ultimate in blend-able makeup. I can dab a little of this on during low-maintence makeup days on any spots and it looks so natural! As far as trying to have a natural makeup look, this is definitely the top of the list.
Benefit Hoola Bronzer // I go back and forth with using bronzers. I'm such a pale girl that even giving myself a little color can make me look a little off. I think what I've finally learned is to buy the proper brushes and I can easily use this AWESOME bronzer to give myself a very light sheen of color that gives my face a little contour without being over the top.
Benefit Brow-Zing // To really make my eyebrows pop, I prefer shadow to pencil and this shadow kit is at the top of that list. Not only does it do a great job of blending in my eyebrows, but the mini tweezer makes it perfect for travel so I never worry about having an eyebrow out of place.
YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil // If you're looking for some low-maintenece lip color, you need to splurge on one of these! I got a sample of this in the shade Cherry My Cherie and it is the prettiest shade of bright pink. It goes on really light your first application, but the gloss isn't stick at all and smells amazingly like apricots. After a second application, you can really see the pink coloring stay on your lips. It even passed the eating lunch test with no need to re-apply. I had to buy the full size for everyday and keep the mini for my nighttime clutches. I can totally see this being the only lip color I use until Fall!
Bare Minerals Blemish Remedy Foundation // I will never give up my love of powder. I hate shine and I always have a compact on me somewhere. It's probably why I love this powder foundation. Bare Minerals knows how to make a light powder that won't cake up on your face and their blemish remedy formula works amazing for my sensitive skin.
Clinique chubby in the nude foundation stick // For days when I need a little bit more cover, this light foundation stick is perfect. I can use it both for foundation/concealer and it's so easy to blend with my  beauty blender.
Sephora Nano Lip Liner to Go // I've been totally obsessed with these! Their tiny size, inexpensive price point and array of colors make them my go to for lip liners. Every time I go to pick up a new lipstick now, I immediately head over to the Sephora brand section to find the nano lip liner that matches.

Skincare Favorites

Sunday, February 21, 2016

I've never been a huge fan of my skin. It's probably because it's always been such a pain in the butt to take care of. I have oily/combination acne-prone skin that is pretty sensitive and when it comes to skin-types, it's pretty much the worst. Now that I've gotten through all my complaining about my skin, I've actually turned a corner in the past few months and I think it has a lot to do with the products I've been using. I finally invested into taking the time to try out a bunch of new skincare products and slowly, but surely, I have formulated the perfect routine to keep my difficult skin under control and looking fresh and healthy. I'm definitely not a skincare expert (NOT AT ALL) and I can't promise that any of these products will work as well for you as they have for me, but if you have the same skin-type that I do, I would definitely suggest giving some of these awesome products a go. Check them out!
Day:  I always assumed that your daytime/nighttime skincare routine would be the same, but for me that's definitely not the case. To look my best in the morning vs. the night, I need a whole different arsenal of amazing products. Starting with my cleanser, I have always loved the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish cleanser, but I would notice that midway through the bottle, it would stop working as well. I blamed it on the cleanser and started using a whole new one until I read some reviews and realized that I just needed to use a new muslin cloth when I got halfway through a bottle. The cloth, being covered with grime day after day, wasn't doing me any favors. Now, the cleanser works amazingly from the start of the bottle to the very end!
After I scrub my face, it's all about the toning. I have been using Caudalíe Beauty Elixir. The scent is incredibly calming, it does an amazing job of brightening my complexion and I can spray it on whenever throughout the day for a little wake-up call. It's also perfect for setting your makeup or giving it a quick refresh.
As far as an eye cream, I used to use the same for both day/night but with my puffy early-morning eyes, I need a little something more. Boscia's Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm is seriously magic for me in the morning. It wakes up my eyes, instantly calms the puffiness and makes me feel way less sleepy, which is an amazing feat in itself. I've even taken to throwing in my purse for super sleepy days and dapping a little bit eye after lunch to keep me from falling asleep at my desk (so necessary).
The last skincare step for me in the morning is my moisturizer and since I found Fresh's Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream I have never looked back. It's light, absorbs really quickly and does a great job of making my skin look glowy and moisturized, even in winter!

Night: I think my nighttime skincare routine has been the biggest game changer for me. I had a morning skincare routine that I was using for nighttime and it just wasn't working for me. With a whole night of sleep, I should've been focusing on repairing my tired skin, but I was just going on using the same products as before. With my new improvements, my skin has been way easier to deal with and continuing to improve on a daily basis. I usually start my nighttime routine by removing all my makeup with Neutrogena Hydrating Make-Up Remover Cleansing Wipes. I used to use the original wipes, but with winter being so dry, these have been perfect for removing my makeup without taking away all the oils. I opt to do a really good job with the cleansing wipe instead of using a nighttime cleanser.
For toning, I think I found the holy grail when it comes to amazing exfoliating toners in the Pixi Glow Tonic. Now I understand why every beauty blogger I know has raved about this product. It literally does give your skin a nice glow, all the while exfoliating any dead skin and residual makeup that may have been left behind. Seriously, you should pick up a mini sample size of this product and give it a go. It may not work for everyone, but it's done an amazing job on my sensitive skin.
After toning, I reach for my bottle of Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Skin Refining Oil. I found this product after I tried a sample of the renewal night cream and fell totally in love with the product. I wanted to keep the good skin vibes going so I immediately ran to my Sephora to grab a bottle of the refining nigh oil. Besides the great creamsicle like smell, it's been great for reducing any fine lines I have (say bye bye annoying forehead wrinkle) and giving me a healthy looking complexion when I wake up in the morning.
After patting in my oil, I reach for its companion, the Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Renewal Cream. Like I said with the oil, great scent, great results and I already know I'll be re-purchasing again and again. You should definitely go and grab a sample at Sephora and try it out for yourself.
I have been using the Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm for almost two years now and I still love and re-purchase it everytime I'm out. I've gone through a variety of eye creams, but it seems to be the only one who has ever done anything for my dark under-eye circles and it's perfect to use at night when I can give it the most time to absorb!
Last, but certainly not least in my skincare routine is the Origins Super Spot Remover. While my skin has been pretty clear lately with all my new skincare additions, one or two spots will definitely pop-up once in awhile, usually when I've hit a week of intense stress. To combat that, this spot remover has been my go-to. I usually hate products with Salicylic Acid, but the ingredients in this little bottle do a great job of taking out the redness from a spot and reducing its size. Huzzah to that!

Do you have some holy grail combination products that have been working great for you? Share with me in the comments!

Whether you're dressing up for a night with your favorite S.O. or glamming yourself up for a fun night with your girls, standing out is always the goal. I rarely go for red or pink dresses so Valentine's Day has always been the perfect excuse to go all out in those particular colors. Boden Must Have Tunic

Thursday, January 21, 2016

I really love when I find a dress that I love so much, I feel that I have to buy it almost every color. That's definitely been the case with this 'must have tunic' from Boden clothing. It's been raining like crazy for the last few weeks so finding outfits that make me feel cosy at home and at work have been so necessary lately. This dress totally fits the bill with fitted shape, draped jersey fabric and 3/4 length sleeve.

Since there was a sudden break in the rain, I opted to grab coffee in my favorite suede Sawyer boots from J.Crew Factory. I love shoes that require no breaking and are comfy right off the bat.

The prints on these dresses are so cute. The dark horses running all over the dress always remind me that song 'wild horses'. The dress also comes in a sparrows print for all the bird lovers.
This purse has become my new go-to for long workdays/work weekends where I might need to drag around my laptop, my notebooks, planners, coffee cup, a book or two and maybe a few snacks, (basically my whole life in a bag). The bag definitely has the appeal of helping me look more put together when I'm heading into work.
